The lighting was terrible and the bird was a long way off, but I still held on to this photo taken in Mesilla, #NewMexico, last spring. Even without any color, its profile easily identifies it as a curve-billed thrasher, and it's appropriate for today's #BirdOfTheDay theme, #Silhouette. #Birds

The image shows the silhouetted profile of a larger songbird perched near the apparent intersection of two bare tree branches. The bird has a long and gently curving beak, as well as a longer tail. The background is washed-out gray. Curve-billed thrashers (Toxostoma curvirostre) have body lengths of 10.6-11.0 inches (27-28 cm), weigh 2.1-3.3 ounces (60.8-93.6 g), and have wingspans of 13.4-13.6 inches (34-34.5 cm).

Early stages of a faerie ring made up of white button mushrooms There are 3 mushrooms forming a curved line. Small clumps of green grass are emerging from the brown grass that dried up during the high temps and lack of rain. In the background, there is a puddle, which is a rare sight in the high desert.
