The #Magic led by as much as 18 and genuinely looked energetic with their passing. The shots did not fall in the second quarter nearly as much. The defense loosened up and the #Grizzlies closed the gap quickly. A 10-3 run to close the second.

Magic lead 64-61 at the half.

We have reached the preseason extremely sloppy portion of today's proceedings. #Magic with some sloppy turnovers and falling into some bad habits offensively. Shots are not going in anymore.

Vucevic has been reaching a lot. I fear his defense is an early alarm bell.

#Magic have been initiating a lot more with Franz today. Franz isn't scoring much. But it has led to Paolo getting the ball on the move more. Much better for him.

Zach Edey is repelling shots at the rim. The #Magic are still collapsing the paint and getting good looks from deep. They just aren't going in at the same rate. Defense is letting up a bit. Second efforts aren't there. It's preseason.

Me watching Nikola Vucevic drain top of the key threes in a #Magic uniform

End of the 1st quarter: #Magic 36, Grizzlies 26

You've got to largely like what Orlando has done in terms of ball movement (11 assists) and defensive communication (Memphis shot 3 for 11 from 3).

Wendell Carter Jr. with 7 points, Bane 6 and Wagner 2 with 4 assists and 2 steals.

I love the energy Alex Morales has given. He is digging out loose balls and just making things happen. Good two-way guy.

#Magic shot 6 of 10 from three and had 11 assists on 11 field goals. Starters dominated their minutes.

#Magic lead the #Grizzlies 36-26 after one quarter.

Paolo Banchero is 3 for 6 from the line to start the game. He is getting there and forcing action. Generally, he is moving faster. But still a bit too much dribbling for my liking.

#Magic have all the bench guys in with Paolo now.

Definitely some preseason stuff to clean up. #Grizzlies are outworking them on the glass. Zach Edey is a bear and they have given up some offensive rebounds.

But the #Magic offense has some pep and is moving. Defense is mostly contesting shots. Good start.

Can you believe it? Our long national nightmare is over.

#Magic basketball is back! They take on the #Grizzlies shortly! Follow along in our first game thread of the season!

The #Magic are starting Jase Richardson, Desmond Bane, Franz Wagner, Paolo Banchero and Wendell Carter Jr. tonight at Memphis.

Jalen Suggs (illness), Anthony Black (right ankle sprain), Jonathan Isaac (personal reasons) and Noah Penda (right hamstring strain) are all OUT.

I wonder if they'll announce another Marvel #Magic set at this con. Seems like it's inevitable for it to come out some time soon. I hope the next one is X-Men

“We're going to try to give those guys a good run and help them get a rhythm, help them get their feet wet and get going," #Magic coach Sean Sweeney said pre-game when asked by Josh Cohen how many minutes Orlando's core guys will play to open the preseason at Memphis.
