Here’s a photo of a Siskin on our sunflower hearts feeder. A Goldfinch gives balance to the composition by leaning left on the other side of the feeder.

Blauwborst - Luscinia svecica - zit in een top van een zuringplant. Het is een mannetje met blauwe keel en witte vlek in het midden en op de overgang van borst naar buik een roodbruine band. Dezelfde roodbruine kleur heeft de vogel ook aan de basis van de staart. De achtergrond van de foto is helemaal groen van de vegetatie.

A Song Thrush perched on top of a dead Elder tree in song. The bird is slightly left of centre of the shot, in side profile facing right so that’s its right side is visible. The birds head is slightly raised and its beak is slightly open. The beak is dark with yellow around the ‘lips’ and lower bill. Its face is brown with flecks of creamy white and black throughout. The upper body is a warm brown with darker colouring at the ends of the wing and tail. Its chest is creamy white, turning to white around the legs, and heavily marked with dark, arrow-shaped spots. The legs are a pale, pinkish colour. The branch it is on comes up from the bottom, slightly left of centre. It branches out into five stubby branches at the top. It is dead and bare of bark with a clump of moss on one branch. The background is a uniform out of focus green.

For the #BirdOfTheDay theme #Green, the green on the chaffinch's back always surprises me (only hinted at in these pictures, as I couldn't find one with the right angle).

You can just see the hints of iridescent #Green in this starling's plumage for both today's #BirdOfTheDay and #SmallBirdSaturday.

A starling perches in a tangle of dense bush full of thin brown branches and narrow green, waxy leaves. Some of the blurred leaves partially obscure the starling's lower third, including his legs. The starling faces to the right, appearing in profile, with his blade-like beak angled slightly downwards and one black eye seeming to regard the photographer with some degree of wariness. His feathers are fluffed and ruffled, giving him the appearance of having a tight mohawk. He has the starlings' distinctive glossy black plumage with white V-shaped tips. Where the sunlight hits the feathers, they shine with an iridescent green sheen.
