Zooming in on the inner city, off-street pathways are limited to the along the rivers where green space exists. This leaves vast areas with no off-street pathways, meaning the only way to provide safe pathways is to use the street space to create safe bicycle infrastructure.

Calgary has an amazing off-street pathway system with over 1,000km. So when someone proposes to stop building on-street pathways for bicycling and leave that space for cars, it seems doable. Maybe even reasonable… until you take a closer look.
