#hwa4 #yingelishiparty I feel the whole customs section in my head, strangely enough. It "scratches an itch" so to speak. Sometimes, it feels like for by understanding of words the poet is off-beat, which feels like a rule break, but in the Chinese context it may make more sense

@chillmountaineer.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 2:51 AM

words/sounds put side-to-side with what is actually spoken. In other words, fluency to me would be the amount of similarity between what I expect to come next versus what actually does come next. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty

#hwa4 #yingelishiparty Through this whole part about travel I've felt a bit like a stranger. Some of the words sound almost familiar to me, but especially in the context things like "ticket" and "flight 667" are being lost on me

@chillmountaineer.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 2:49 AM

Therefore, I personally would not classify this as fluent to me. However, I would imagine the same result for non-native English speakers where they do not see English as something fluent for them. If we classify “fluency” here, I see it as the assumption of succeeding #hwa4 #yingelishiparty

I think fluency in this specific soundscape would therefore depend on your subjective view of how you interpret sound and language. As I mentioned in previous posts, I tried to associate sounds common to me with succeeding sounds/words I would use in the English language. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty

with the speaker but it never aligned in length of pronunciation and my assumption of succeeding word sounds. This really is my native perception of being an English speaker attempting to match familiar sounds to commonly associated sounds/phrases in English that I would use. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty

#hwa4 #yingelishiparty At a certain point during this listen, I stopped reading what I am "supposed" to hear and just listened. I found that when (for example, in Gratitude) when I stopped looking at what I was supposed to hear my brain really struggled to pick up what was close to English sounding

@kneeuhh.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 2:45 AM

Omg I finally get it. The singer is reading the large text in the middle, while under it is what it literally translates to, and at the top is what we hear in english and the Chinese translation for what sounds like english. I feel so dumb, I had to use google translate lol. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty

There were some parts and words that felt familiar to me, but not quite. I frequently noticed the English pronunciation of a word or character that sounded like “dark.” When it was pronounced it felt unnatural to me in that I found myself trying to pronounce it along #hwa4 #yingelishiparty

i totally feel included in Yingelishi, i think any english speaker is going to have a very interesting experience when listening and following along with the lyrics #hwa4 #yingelishiparty

#hwa4 #yingelishiparty Regardless of what words the poems sound like, the music has a big impact on how I feel. For example, even when listening to the beginnings of "Greetings," which is pretty simple, the more traditional music makes me feel happy and relaxed

@chillmountaineer.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 2:42 AM

which I do not know. Of course, I do not mean any offensive remarks by saying “nonsense” mode. I naturally found myself on both playthroughs experimenting with me looking away from the text and at it on both occasions to test my perception. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty

#hwa4 #yingelishiparty The interesting thing is when the Chinese characters will be pronounced after the parts that sound "English" have already been said. For example, at the part where it says "Watching in the Dark," my brain hears the extra syllables and wants to fill in another English word

@bakedbyjuj.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 2:41 AM

i keep getting swept up in the instruments... they are so captivating and the small break they took during the end of the video made it impossible to tune back in once everything resumed. my brain had shut off and could only process the background #hwa4 #yingelishiparty

@chillmountaineer.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 2:40 AM

My brain switches to “nonsense” mode every time I look away from the English translation and pronunciation text at the bottom and top of the screen. I would say this makes sense, though, since it is as if someone came up to me and started speaking to me in a language of #hwa4 #yingelishiparty

@amanraj07.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 2:40 AM

I feel the usual rules of how a language is supposed to be learned are being broken. Normally you learn meaning and grammar first, but here sound comes first. It’s quite fascinating to see a new way like this.

Way of speaking I am more familiar with. When I read the actual English translation at the bottom, I feel like I am a stranger. #hwa4 #yingelishiparty

@gabi-senior-year.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 2:39 AM

#hwa4 #yingelishiparty It's quite striking how immediately, what the English speakers are hearing is relatively simply commands/images (like a dark room) while the Chinese speakers seems to be much more distinct imagery and concepts

@bakedbyjuj.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 2:38 AM

did not hear 'robbery!' at ALL btw, that one was totally lost on me #hwa4 #yingelishiparty

@chillmountaineer.bsky.socialOct 12, 2026, 2:38 AM

I feel like I don't personally represent a speaker and stranger simultaneously at any point, only one or the other. What I noticed is that when I read the English at the top that best represents the pronunciation, I feel like a speaker more where I can relate the sounds to a #hwa4 #yingelishiparty
