I dont have much whimsical clothes in my stories. My fantasy gargoyles have cool armor, but here is a scene that tickles me from my current WIP.
Cultural? Kinda. More utilitarian from his perspective.
Jack puts in some weird getup to examine a mysterious item.
I love the end of Queen of Monsters. Isabella queen. Callista finally happy.
I don't have much of traditions. But I love reading with my mom.
From Skeleton Rebellion (book 2 in Tales of the Grim Reaper):
I don't think there's anything too ridiculous.
@ellielieberman.bsky.social has helped ny beta reading my books. Her stories and worlds are phenomenal.
Another great prompt from #WhimsicalWriters and such perfect timing because I just finished writing a prom scene in my novel Canary! Bekah doesn't often get dressed up b/c she's a tomboy by nature but when she does it's always a wow moment. The only catch is she's not dressed for her bf 👀

So I briefly touch upon clothing when we meet Tink’s friends and the Collectors.
Their clothing is basically whatever piece of cloth they can make work.

A lot of my best whimsy is massive spoilers. This one is cut to mitigate that a bit. Visansa dressed up all fancy for a gala, and she knows she looks good.
Image is how she looks NORMALLY.
I'd show off the Aroi cultural robes with a snip, but those scenes ARE massive spoilers.

What to wear on a first date? According to Mrs. Requiem, you alter one of your fanciest dresses to fit your daughter and lend her your necklace made from pearls your husband brought you. Not bought. Brought.
Mr. Requiem gathered those pearls by hand. In the sea~🦈
I've fallen off the last few #WhimsicalWriters 😭 but I do have something good to supply for this one I think!
This guy shows up in ch1 of 1661 and Alexander, who reads everyone by clothes, finds his combination of old and new intriguing. And "old and new meet" becomes a motif over the whole book.
Whimsical Writers (Sept. 21st)!
A few people got tripped up on the last one of these so, to be clear, I mean share an excerpt or snippet of your WIP. Don't just describe it in a post, show off your writing. Let people see your flair guys!

Some of my favourite endings come from Shakespeare, like The Tempest which I mentioned in the original post. Another whimsical ending is The Goonies, which I remember being a lot of fun as a child.

#WhimsicalWriters Sorry I'm late! I thought about this all day yesterday and couldn't think of one. But, I'm quite fond of the ending of Nightmare Before Kissmas by Sara Raasch. The second book was good, but the first was better.
I enjoy how Winter of Fire by Sherryl Jordan ended. I list it as one of my favorite formative fantasy books.
I dont want to spoil it, but the heroine not only overcomes the tragedies of her story, but manages to rewrite how her world works entirely, and for the better.

joke answer: when they fly away in a car at the end of the movie Grease
non-joke: I recently thought the ending of The Everlasting by Alix. E. Harrow was sweet and tied the journey up nicely (+ it has some time travel shenanigans)
I honestly find most book endings a bit of a let-down XD Not 'bad,' just so focused on ENDING that my brain is left in the lurch. I'm fond of the romance endings in the Hearts of Heroes series by @themollyjay.bsky.social and it's a big reason they're my comfort read these days. 🧵
