No wonder she wants to seduce Ben. She's married to the Mayor of Amity.

Hoffman is nearly 30 here and Anne Bancroft is 35.

And “You’re trying to seduce me” may be the most famous line in movie history that’s just as famous for the way it’s framed. #TheGraduate #TCMParty

I first saw this movie at a drive-in when I was about 6 years old. When I was 15, I saw Rich Hall opening for David Johansen at the Cellar Door in DC and thought myself very sophisticated when he made an "Elaine!" joke. #TheGraduate #TCMParty

Mike Nichols tells the story visually. Some of the most memorable ideas aren't in the dialogue. Benjamin seen through the glass of the aquarium, trapped underwater in his scuba suit or framed behind Mrs. Robinson's leg—all make him look literally enclosed by the adult world.

William Daniels is only 10 years older than Dustin Hoffman, but Hoffman looks younger here than he was.

Seeing this for the first time, however, I would say that the OTT of the waspiness of the family makes it more relatable. They are such a cliche that they are identifiable.

The best part about the famous “Plastics” line is the pause immediately afterward. #TheGraduate #TCMParty

Hoffman’s Benjamin is wonderfully uncomfortable. Hoffman wasn't the conventional Hollywood leading man of the period, and that's essential. Benjamin rarely seems at ease in his own body. He's passive, awkward, distracted, and frequently unable to articulate what bothers him.

As many times as I’ve seen it, that was the first time I noticed Benjamin’s mother wetting his hair down with her spit. #TheGraduate #TCMParty

The family’s well-to-do origins threaten to make it unrelatable to a broader audience, but Benjamin’s struggles are universal. #TheGraduate #TCMParty

...and we start with the wonderful opening title sequence of Ban on the moving walkway with Simon & Garfunkel "The Sound of Silence" playing

Damn this music is......

What makes THE GRADUATE great is how completely the filmmaking captures the experience of being young, alienated, and unsure what adulthood is supposed to be.

Here for the “Graduate” ••• 😀 #TCMParty #TheGraduate

Looking forward to watching The Graduate.

Mrs. Robinson: "Do you find me undesirable?"

Benjamin: "Oh, no, Mrs. Robinson. I think—I think you're the most attractive of all my parents' friends."
