Chapter 1 shenanigans! They just added Blu to their traveling party :)
#Sniptober

Loke started to follow Blu, but noticed Magnar had dozed off so she went back and gently shook his shoulder.
Magnar instinctively grabbed her hand firmly, saying “Don't even try to be friendly at this stage,” before he had come around and realized what was going on. He noticed the look of terror on Loke's face and quickly released her hand. “I wasn't referring to you. I must have been dreaming about someone that’s been giving me grief lately.”
Loke didn't say anything about it and continued to wearily glance his way. Magnar apologized profusely as they caught up to Blu and were led out a different door down a different tunnel. The end of the tunnel led to the basement of what sounded like a pub. Casks filled the room, which could only be assumed as wine. After sneaking out of the basement one by one, they parted ways briefly and would reunite later that night.

No Helper. So: helped.

...

She didn’t like the idea of closing her eyes and letting the countess be so close to her face. Or to her neck.

“I don’t have a choice, do I?” Blair asked.

“You have a choice as to how pleasant the experience will be.” The countess answered.

Blair nodded and seated herself at the vanity. The countess took a makeup sponge and began to apply things to Blair’s face.

“Your accent is Yssian. So I assume that your Akhetion background is some ways in the past?”

Blair almost nodded. Then she froze, not wanting to upset the countess. “Yes. House Wander formed five hundred years ago. My ancestor helped the Duke of Delmar in a civil war against the Voxcaelli Duchy. That ancestor was an Akhetion mercenary.”

text reads:

she refused to cry in front of the maids the Shen family provided for her. she didn't trust them anymore than she trusted (old lady's maid), but with leshan's indentity revealed, she was no longer allowed to attend her. in fairness, her maids weren't all bad. they were respectful and quiet, attending her side when she was in the shen's mansion. but until she was the true lady of the shen household, the maids would always remain loyal to old lady shen and the maid working directly under her. she couldn't allow her position as lady shen to threatened at such a crucial moment.

Busy day and only getting to this now, but here's an unrevised snip from Felcrown my fantasy adventure serial about a megadungeon that becomes a city. The story is about community, and when there's a horrific attack during a holiday celebration, the citizens of Felcrown act.

Screenshot of a work-in-progress manuscript.

They were slowed by a wave of people rushing toward the Obsidian Tower. Young and old alike, a dizzying array of species, with most dressed in their finest party outfits, all rushed down elevators and stairs carrying improvised bandages, water, anything that might help the wounded below.
Soon it thinned as the rest appeared to be sheltering in their homes.
Many of the helpers had witnessed a large spider with strange white markings scurry up and into a passageway three levels up. Redsleeves said, “I think he might be going to the library where he lives. It’s off in that direction.”

#Sniptober "helper"

from A Prayer for the Pirate Queen 🏴‍☠️ 💜 ⚓️ currently in third draft revisions

Geni scanned the deck for others she knew. Madelia and some helpers—including the Bosun and the Quartermaster, roped in presumably—brought more food to the table from the galley. Talos had positioned himself between the Oliatos twins, hiding behind them and looking in Madelia's direction as if he were avoiding being called on. In her own group, Melissa and Adara were making conversation, but Geni was too aware of the wider deck to really pay attention.

Where was Kallista?

"Doc?"

"Hmm?"

Geni's eyes flicked back to the first mate. Iona grinned knowingly. "Sorry, did you hear what I asked? I shouldn't tease you, I know, you've been working very hard this afternoon, saving lives."

“This is all the aid I can offer right now,” Uriel was saying. “Seikhiel is not of my Lineage, and military affairs are beyond my influence. I will send my assistant to you when you have need of me.”

“You get to decide when that is, do you?” Luccan demanded icily. Uriel ignored him.

I had all sorts of helping actions, so I went with this one with Blu being (and wanting to be) Dias' helper/assistant.

#Sniptober

After breakfast, Blu helped Dias clean up and tried to gather the courage to ask him
about rst aid. It was met with initial reluctance but eventually Dias resigned to at least teach
him basic rst aid. Blu was elated as he was now going to be more useful to Loke and Magnar.
Magnar went back to the shed and to get a better feel for which tools he would want to bring
along before he utilized the sharpening stone to rid them of rust and dullness. Loke went
through each abandoned building after Dias assured both Magnar and Blu no one else was in
this outpost and she’d be perfectly ne on her own.

Going with vibes and 'help' here lol

Snippet from a book I don't share nearly enough, Untamed (Feral Bonds Book 1). This is when Zaire saves Lathan after a brutal loss in a shifter/human fighting ring.

www.im-no-angel.com/untamed.html

#WritingCommunity #SnipShare

“ “Why did you help me?”
Zaire smiled, serving up the eggs and bacon with toast and bringing the plates to the kitchen table. “You needed me.”
Lathan’s brow furrowed. He folded his muscular arms over his broad chest, leaning against the doorframe. “There’s got to be more.”
“Does there?”
“Yes. People don’t just help strangers.”
Considering where Zaire had found Lathan, and how desperate his situation had become, he couldn’t really blame the young man for being skeptical.
Besides, Zaire hadn’t helped a stranger. He’d helped a man his beast recognized belonged to them. Not that he could tell Lathan yet. The unblooded were too human to immediately sense a bond. They needed to be coaxed a little more carefully to accept their mates.
So he told Lathan just enough of the truth to answer his question without making him bolt. “I was hired to deal with one of the men involved in running the fighting ring. Come, sit with me and I’ll tell you more.”

No helper, subbing with assistant~

Yeahhhh... everyone's just going through it in today's prompts for me. 😓

The moment he pulled away my spine thawed and I struggled as ferociously as my dulled senses would allow. My arms and legs strained against their restraints, and my body bucked. I gritted my teeth and tensed my neck, but no amount of effort would move my head.
‘Carcha.’
The doctor’s assistant laid his body atop mine in an effort to keep me still. At first, he bounced atop my thrashing torso, but a curt word from the doctor made him tense above me. I could no longer move. And once I was secure, I felt a pinch in my neck.

#Sniptober 'helper'

I assumed, if I found it at all, it would be used rather sarcastically. Guess not!
from The Hour of the Day, Tipping World vol 5

Mages were clustered together outside their tents, chatting and enjoying the evening meal, and Dyafer went from one group to the next, making no attempt to bypass foreign mages in favor of her people. They were all in this together. If they had understood that a year ago, there would have been several hundred more of them here today.
Those who were still eating or had only just begun, she told to finish their meals and then go straight to bed, so they would be well-rested for the next phase of the plan. Those who had finished, she sent in search of food for Mairid’s helpers or torches and lamps to light their work. Those who weren’t still eating but were holding onto their bowls like they were hoping not to receive a task, she sent straight to Mairid to ask how they could help.

No helper today but I have assistant!

The therapist’s hands found the tight knots nestled deep within their neck muscles. Each poke and jab precise, targeting every hidden ache and stubborn spasm. Pressure sharp, sometimes uncomfortable, but beneath it lay warmth that seeped through, grounding Lunaris.

When the knot work ended, the therapist led them to the back room, a cavern of workout equipment and therapy tools. Lunaris followed, muscles humming, spine taut, moving through the familiar choreography of care and pain.

They lay on the traction table, straps cinching snugly around their ribs and low back. The table moved, pulling their spine gently. The sensation stretched them apart and coaxed them back together. Lunaris surrendered, still, letting the slow motion thread through vertebrae and discs.

After half an hour, the table stopped. The velcro bands were undone by the PT assistant’s warm, steady hands. “All done for now,” she said. “How are you feeling?”

Lunaris exhaled softly, shoulders relaxing just a fraction. The relief was small but immense.

#Sniptober a little bit of ace euphoria that I don't think I've shared before!

Also is ellipsus acting out on mobile for anyone else? I can't get the snippet generator to come up on wifi or 5g

Despite the bath and the fog it had laid over the mirror and window, I shivered. My hands and lips and neck burned with the memory of him, little fires all over my body, yet I wasn’t consumed. His mouth and fingers were gentle, and never strayed beyond the limits of my trepidation.

I sank deeper into the water. Warmth enveloped my body, and an unexpected giggle escaped me.

My belief in magic had never had a fighting chance, but perhaps I had been hasty. Not only did Bolton like me enough to kiss me, he liked me enough to kiss me while knowing that was all I wanted.

If that didn’t classify as a miracle, I wasn’t sure what did.

The sound of gravel crunching beneath tires interrupted my marveling.

The interactions between these two are much of the reason King of Ill-Omens is one of my favorite books in this series.

He noted more than one of his mages trying to catch his attention and nodded to them, indicating they should go with the flow. Already people were heading back inside in groups to begin the search. How long would it take them to inspect every piece of paper in this vast building searching for a record of the Kwentaro’s nonexistent dastardly scheme? The idea was too droll.
The Gorol was watching them again, and Mairid held a hand out. A rock rose from the gravel surrounding the freshly-planted flower bed, and he turned it in his hands, eyes on it. He was finding it interesting to have a conversation with this woman, one of few he had ever enjoyed, but they were going to need to break up the conference soon. That she should be ever more in his company as she grew increasingly isolated would feel natural to the others; he was a pariah, where else could she turn when she found herself alone? It couldn’t be seen to happen too suddenly, though.
She had been watching him and now said softly, “It must be very easy for you. You have this persona to hide behind.”

no gravel, but small rocks and dirt? Loke's prepping for a ceremony in less than ideal conditions. #Sniptober

Loke was used to having to cleanse with fresh water and following it up by a blood accent, depending on the ceremony, but neither were available and neither were called for. In place of water, she washed herself with the dirt from the hole, wincing at the scratches the small rocks made on her arms and legs.

A pink gravel path crunched under his feet. He veered away from the main entrance—the grandeur might crush the breath from him—and found a side door of bronze flanked by contrapposto sculptures. Akieryon let himself in, and he nearly tripped over an archangel.

Gravel being very painful in this snippet, where Boone fought attacking seelie and was taken out...by the road and some trees.

#WritingCommunity #SnipShare

“Edric hit the brakes. Threw the door open and jumped out of the jeep, immediately spotting the unseelie on the side of the dirt road. Running to him and catching him before he collapsed, he took in the damage.
The rich brown of Boone’s skin was caked with mud and blood, gravel embedded in scratched up parts of his cheek. Under his hand the fabric of Boone’s suit was ripped open, his skin slick and gritty.
“Come sit down and let me take a look at you.” Edric helped Boone to the passenger seat of the jeep, then grabbed the medkit from the back. “Tell me what happened.”
“Fucking seelie. They ambushed me. I was holding my own—you know I can take those bastards.” Boone gritted his teeth as Edric made him lean forward, exposing skin torn to the bone on his back and shoulder. “Rainer was coming out of the woods to back me up. Prince Helios stepped out behind him and I knew…I fucking knew he’d kill him. When I brought up a shield to protect him… Damn it, I don’t even know what they hit me with. I took out a few trees before[…]”
