Scam of the day: Fake online shops and social-media sellers.

What they want: Payment for goods that are never sent, or are fake — plus your card details.

How it works, the red flags and what to do: streetowl.co.uk/scam-avoidance-database

#ScamAwareness #FraudPrevention

StreetOwl scam avoidance: Buying & selling. Fake online shops and social-media sellers. Also: too-good-to-be-true deals · Instagram boutique · counterfeit goods. What they want: Payment for goods that are never sent, or are fake — plus your card details. How it works: An advert on Facebook, Instagram or TikTok, or a search result, for a brand at 70% off, a sold-out console, a puppy, a heat pump grant. The site is professional and has reviews. You pay by card or, increasingly, by bank transfer 'because our card machine is down'. The moment they push you to act: Checkout. Bank transfer is the tell — it has no chargeback. Red flags: Prices far below every other seller. A site only weeks old (check a domain lookup), no address, no phone, a contact form only. Payment by bank transfer, crypto or gift card only. Reviews that are all five stars and all the same week. Where to report: Your card provider first; Report Fraud; report the advert to the platform. Happening right now? Hang up or close the message first. Money sent: call 159 · Scam text: forward to 7726 · Report Fraud · Scotland: 101. streetowl.co.uk/scam-avoidance-database, 29 Sep 2026.

Red flag check: a legit survey site is always free to join and never needs your bank login, email password or remote access to your phone. Any "membership fee" means walk away. #scamawareness #surveys

Scammers create urgency to make you panic and act without thinking.

“Act now!” “Pay immediately!” “Your account will be blocked!”

nofakey-ai.github.io/blog/how-sca...

#NoFakeYAI #ScamAlert #ScamAwareness #OnlineSafety #CyberSecurity #DigitalSafety

Scammers often use urgency and fear to pressure you into making quick decisions.

Messages like “Your account will be blocked today,” “Pay now to avoid a penalty,” or “Your prize expires in 10 minutes” are designed to make you react before you have time to verify the information.

Don’t let pressure make the decision for you. Stop and verify through the company’s official website, app, or verified contact number.

Never click suspicious links, share OTPs, send money, or provide personal information just because a message sounds urgent.

Stop. Think. Verify.

Stay alert with NoFakeYAI — Think Before You Trust.

Scam of the day: Romance scam.

What they want: Money, sent by someone who believes they are in a relationship — repeatedly, for as long as it lasts.

How it works, the red flags and what to do: streetowl.co.uk/scam-avoidance-database

#ScamAwareness #FraudPrevention

StreetOwl scam avoidance: Romance & relationships. Romance scam. Also: catfishing · military romance · oil-rig engineer. What they want: Money, sent by someone who believes they are in a relationship — repeatedly, for as long as it lasts. How it works: A profile on a dating site or a friend request on social media; attentive, affectionate, quickly moving the conversation to WhatsApp. They are abroad — a soldier, an engineer on a rig, a doctor with a charity — which explains why they cannot meet or video call. Weeks or months of daily contact build a real bond. The moment they push you to act: Each request for money, escalating in size; also requests to send gift-card codes, to open accounts, or to invest 'together' (see pig butchering). Red flags: They cannot video call, and cannot meet, for reasons that keep changing. Declarations of love within days; requests for money within weeks. Their photos appear elsewhere under another name (a reverse image search shows this). Friends and family are warned off. Where to report: Report Fraud, and the platform. Victim Support offers free help. Happening right now? Hang up or close the message first. Money sent: call 159 · Scam text: forward to 7726 · Report Fraud · Scotland: 101. streetowl.co.uk/scam-avoidance-database, 28 Sep 2026.

did it. 😂 I accepted the mystery friend request on The Facebook.

Now I discovered Amy has 3 employers…and only 16 friends. She may have more jobs than Facebook friends. 🤔

The experiment begins.

A mystery woman sent me a friend request on The Facebook. 😂

One mutual friend. Interesting profile. No clue who she is.

Accept and see what happens—or DELETE? 🤔

Scam of the day: Fake trading platform (crypto, forex, shares).

What they want: Deposits into a platform they own; the 'balance' you watch grow is a picture.

How it works, the red flags and what to do: streetowl.co.uk/scam-avoidance-database

#ScamAwareness #FraudPrevention

StreetOwl scam avoidance: Investments & pensions. Fake trading platform (crypto, forex, shares). Also: investment platform scam · AI trading bot · guaranteed returns. What they want: Deposits into a platform they own; the 'balance' you watch grow is a picture. How it works: An advert, a social-media post or a message from someone you have been chatting to introduces a trading platform — crypto, forex, gold, an 'AI bot'. A friendly account manager helps you open an account and deposit a small sum, £250 or so. Within days the dashboard shows it has doubled. The moment they push you to act: Each new deposit, and above all the 'release fee' to withdraw — which is where the largest single loss usually happens. Red flags: Returns that are guaranteed, or far above anything a bank or index pays. The firm is not on the FCA register, or is on the FCA Warning List, or is a 'clone' of a real firm using its number with a different phone and email. A fee to withdraw your own money. Pressure to borrow or to cash in a pension. Where to report: The FCA (report a scam at fca.org.uk/scamsmart) and Report Fraud. Happening right now? Hang up or close the message first. Money sent: call 159 · Scam text: forward to 7726 · Report Fraud · Scotland: 101. streetowl.co.uk/scam-avoidance-database, 27 Sep 2026.

Nobody legitimate needs a deposit before you've seen the car. Not to 'hold it', not for 'delivery', not through a shipping company they recommend. That request is the scam, every time.

Scam of the day: Bank 'safe account' scam.

What they want: Get you to move your own money into an account the scammer controls.

How it works, the red flags and what to do: streetowl.co.uk/scam-avoidance-database

#ScamAwareness #FraudPrevention

StreetOwl scam avoidance: Someone official. Bank 'safe account' scam. Also: fraud department call · your account has been compromised. What they want: Get you to move your own money into an account the scammer controls. How it works: A call, often from a number spoofed to look like your bank's, tells you fraud has been spotted on your account. The caller knows your name, sometimes your address and recent transactions (bought or phished beforehand), and sounds exactly like a fraud team: calm, procedural, on your side. The moment they push you to act: You make the transfer yourself, from your own app or branch, sometimes in several payments to stay under limits. The bank's own warning screens are explained away in advance: 'it will ask if anyone told you to do this — say no'. Red flags: No bank, and no police force, will ever ask you to move money to a 'safe account'. There is no such thing. Pressure to act immediately and to keep it secret from staff at your branch. You are told what to say to the bank's questions. You are asked to withdraw cash, hand over your card, or buy gift cards or cryptocurrency. Where to report: Hang up, wait, and call 159 to reach your bank. Then Report Fraud. Happening right now? Hang up or close the message first. Money sent: call 159 · Scam text: forward to 7726 · Report Fraud · Scotland: 101. streetowl.co.uk/scam-avoidance-database, 25 Sep 2026.
