October 7, 2015 - The word is out that Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum arranged for the a work-vacation for the Blazers in San Diego last month.

"We worked out, we played, we'd sit around there, we'd talk, things like that," said Lillard.

There are 14 days remaining before the Blazers open the 2026/27 season. This year, Draft Positions is the order of the countdown. Four players were selected by the Blazers with the 14th pick with three donning the the Red and Black Blazers uniform.

The last Weber State player drafted who played in the NBA until Damian Lillard made his debut in 2012, Bob Davis was the Blazers selection in the 1972 NBA Draft. Davis would suffer a knee injury prior to his rookie season, delaying his debut until the 40th game of the Blazers season. The 6’-7” forward played in 9 games before being sidelined again. Davis was released during the training camp before his second season.

While the Blazers were looking at possibly drafting a center in the 1983 NBA Draft, there was excitement in the Lloyd Building when Clyde Drexler dropped to the 14th spot. The Houston native would tattoo his name all over the Blazers record book. He became the all-time leading scorer in 1989, the leading rebounder in 1994, assist leader in 1989, and games played leader in 1990. While some totals have been passed, Drexler is still in the Top-5 of over a dozen statistical categories and is a member of the Naismith HOF.

After being named the NCAA Player-of-the-Year by AP, UPI, Sporting News, the John Wooden Award, and a consensus First Team All-American after his junior season at St. John’s Univ., Walter Berry decided to forgo his senior season and entered the 1986 NBA Draft. While the Blazers were ecstatic to be able to draft such a noted player, Berry was miffed he fell to the 14th slot in the draft. Once signed by Portland, there was never a comfort between Berry and his teammates or the coaching staff. After playing in 7 of the teams first 24 games, Berry was traded to the San Antonio Spurs. Berry would play a total of 205 games in three years before heading to Europe, playing there from 1989 until 2001. In a six year stretch in Greece, The Truth was a member of three Greek League Championship teams, a Greek Cup winner, a Finals MVP, twice the leading scorer, before being named a Greek HOF member.

The Blazers selected Caleb “Bub” Carrington from Univ. of Pittsburgh in the 2024 NBA Draft. The 6’-4” guard was packaged with Malcolm Brogdon to the Washington Wizards for Deni Avdija. Playing with the Wizards, Carrington was one of 11 NBA rookies to play all 82 games, averaging 9.8 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in 30 minutes of action. Entering his third season in Washington, Carrington has played in all 164 games to date.

October 6, 1985 - Rookie Terry Porter hit two free throws with :03 seconds remaining to give the Blazers a 114-113 preseason victory over the Los Angeles Clippers in a game on the campus of Cal-Poly Pomona.

With Steve Colter limited to 9 minutes due to foul trouble and Darnell Valentine suffering a minor injury in the second half, Porter played 21 minutes as the last man off the bench. "It was a great experience for me to be out there in game like that. It helped me a lot."

Kenny Carr, Kiki Vandeweghe and Mychal Thompson all scored 20 points for the Blazers, with Carr pulling down a game-high 18 rebounds. For the Clippers, Derek Smith scored 21 with Jamaal Wilkes adding 20.

October 6, 2022 - Rookie Shaedon Sharpe scored 27 points to lead the Blazers past the visiting Maccabi Ra'anana, 135-85.

Sharpe connected on 10-of-13 field goal attempts and all 6 free throws. In his two previous games, Sharpe totaled 7 points, shooting 2-for -11 from the field. "I'm getting more comfortable."

For the visiting Maccabi Ra'anana, former Jefferson High School standout Terrance Jones, who led the Democrats to three straight OSAA Titles, scored 4 points and grabbed 9 rebounds.

Maccabi Ra'anana has played two of their three games against NBA Teams. The team from Israel lost their first game on Oct. 1 against the Los Angeles Clippers, 121-81. They will travel to Oklahoma City to play the Thunder on Oct. 9. They would lose that game, 144-97.

October 6, 1984 - With the Blazers exhibition schedule starting tomorrow in Boise, Idaho, Portland released three rookies to get down to a roster of 13 and will need to make one more cut before the regular season starts on Oct. 27.

October 6, 1974 - After a whirlwind preseason tour of New York, Washington DC, and Dayton, Ohio, the Blazers looked forward to a little Arizona sunshine, and a game vs the Phoenix Suns.

Instead, the ol' good news, bad news routine popped up, as the game vs the Suns was "rained out," but the Blazers received some great player news as coach Lenny Wilkens will now be player/coach Lenny Wilkens.

The Cleveland Cavaliers relinquished the playing rights of Wilkens in a strictly cash deal, though no amount was confirmed. Wilkens, who will now enter his 15th NBA season, plans to play in the final two preseason games. The Blazers next game will be in Portland in two days.

Wilkens missed his chance to put on the Blazers uniform after it was announced the game with the Suns was cancelled due to a leak in the roof. The maintenance crew within the Phoenix Memorial Coliseum spent an hour and 40 minutes attempting to get a clean floor before Phoenix GM Jerry Colangelo called the game.

October 6, 1976 - Before the four ABA teams were absorbed into the NBA on June 17, the Blazers and the Denver Nuggets had scheduled a home-and-home set of exhibition games, with today being the first time Portland played in Denver.

Former ABA players Dave Twardzik and Maurice Lucas led all scorers with 16 points, matched by Bill Walton. Walton also grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds in 34 minutes.

The Nuggets, who ran to a 60-24 in the final ABA season, losing in the finals to the New York Nets, picked up where they left off in June, running past the Blazers 114-96 in their NBA preseason debut. "Wow," said Nuggets coach Larry Brown. "It was great for our guys who have never played in the NBA.

David Thompson led Denver with 15 points and a block of a Bill Walton shot that excited the crowd of 7,234. The two teams will play in Portland in two days.
