Very poor for migs & seabirds this last month. Highlights in TG42 being juv Rose-coloured Starling for a few days in early Sept, two juv Red-backed Shrikes together, two American Wigeon, Wrynecks, pale juv Long-tailed Skua inland, two Honey Buzzards, BWK etc.

Four singing Woodlark at East Wretham Heath this morning. Stood dreaming of water and ducks when one of these cows on Langmere put up a Snipe. That was a surprise! I'm predicting a year or more until there is water back in the meres. None here since June.

American Wigeon at Cley may be one of the two birds that has been at Potter Heigham and was last seen in first week of September.

Still spaces available on my Migration Watch event at RSPB Strumpshaw Fen next month (events.rspb.org.uk/events/174802). Last year, we picked up hundreds of Redwing, Fieldfare and more. Why not come and join us for some autumn migration action on Norwich's doorstep? #NorfolkBirding
3 of the #Spoonbills preening and feeding on the Fresh Marsh at Titchwell this lunchtime
Lesser Whitethroat, preening itself within the cover of a hawthorn bush at Roydon Common this evening. Not particularly uncommon, but always tricky to spot during breeding season. They tend to become a bit more visible in the autumn when they start migrating #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds
Barn Owl, devouring something small and squeaky it caught on Terrington Marsh this evening. I like to think the third photo shows a hearty burp being released, but I have no way of confirming that #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds
Another short video of the juvenile Sparrowhawk in my garden this afternoon #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds
Young Sparrowhawk in the garden this afternoon, dealing reasonable well with the wet and windy weather #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds
Stunner of a Sparrowhawk in the garden this afternoon. We normally only get fleeting visits, but this one stayed for about 15 minutes. Looks like one of this year's juveniles #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds
Lovely day yesterday in the sunshine at Sea Palling. Occasional flocks of Pink-feet in off the sea and distant & brief views of Black-winged Kite faithful to its chosen hedgerow. Surreal to see such a bird with only 5 other people there! #Norfolkbirding
8 of the 10+ Caspian Gulls spread across Simmond’s and Pat’s Pools, Cley this evening. Large Gulls still pouring in after the light had gone. Only 3 Glossy ibis in to roost at 19:20. #NorfolkBirding
Red-legged Partridge gang at Roydon Common yesterday evening #UKBirding #norfolkbirding #birds
An unexpected find this morning, an eclipse Pintail on the River Wensum at Wensum Park. A new species for a range of niche lists, including 'birds seen within Norwich outer ring road', birds seen on foot from home, birds seen on my daily commute and possibly others. #NorfolkBirding
I still get a buzz from seeing Glossy Ibis & that's based, entirely, on my formative years when they were (away from Stodmarsh) really rare, a bit like Great Egret, even Little Egret too, significant rarities in my youth. A warming planet ensures they'll keep coming...

Joe Harkness
I met Joe several times & we regularly discussed working with disadvantaged & SEND children as much as birds.
He was an honest, open man who seemed to be thriving.
Despite his struggles he did his best to improve the lives of others.
Desperately sad 😔

More terrific gulling across the Pat's Pool roost again tonight: 8 new Caspian Gulls in as the darkness loomed (18 in three days now inc x6 1CY) plus 7 Yellow-legged Gulls (and four figures of Lesser Black-backed & Black-headed Gulls). Love it!

Enjoyed watching the four Glossy Ibis track west across the marsh from Salthouse this evening, again bang on cue around 7.15. They arced in towards the scrape, gave it an ever decreasing circle or two before finding their feet amongst the gulls.
