took me long enough, but i finally finished the ref sheet for my oc Niall's "Monster Form."
Definitely the most complicated of my OC designs, but also one of my favourites. My baby.
@imdizzybelle.bsky.social![reference sheet of my oc Niall the Mimic Prince (it/its) in its monstrous quadrupedal form.
there is a lot of text in the form of notes and labels around the piece, they read as follows:
Niall
"The Mimic Prince"
MONSTER FORM
oc by Dizzybelle!
notes on the left pose:
[pointing to head] Texture of doll's hair - Messy hair
[pointing to tentacles] boneless + stretchy - can grow as many as it needs. tentacle endings are usually claws but can morph into other stuff
[pointing to tentacle arm (right)] wraps tentacles into arms + hands
shoulders = metal, wood, fabric
arms = meat
claws = porcelain
[pointing to knees] (includes closeup diagram of the joint structure)
Joints
- One Metal Ball
- Four Piston around it
- Also on hips (less visible)
- Details/colours arent necessary, im just a nerd for this stuff
[pointing to lower half] (includes version without wooden/fabric skirt) Without skirt
[pointing to chest] (includes version without clothing) without shirt
smaller diagrams:
[pointing to small drawing of it extending its stomach tongue] tummy tongue = long + slimy!
[pointing to closeup of its face with the lower half of its mask removed] Mouth under the mask -> top half rarely breaks -> Either cracks + breaks off or flips up (tiny drawing of the mask flipping up)
Inner mouth is darker tentacles (drawing of different coloured tentacles)
+ Large purple tentacle tongues (multiple!)
[pointing to jaw] Mandibles are porcelain teeth + metal stalks
[pointing to hunched over drawing] usually hunched over when moving (#onthecreep)
attached to right drawing
[pointing to cravat] wooden cravat (2 layers)
[pointing to shoulder] (includes closeup straight on angle of shoulder piece) mouth-like orifice -> tentacles extend from here
[pointing to torso] torso can swivel >360 degrees independent of lower half
[pointing to lower half] lower half moves like those robot military dogs (unsettling). Metal supports + locks hold central mass together. most of its mass + organs are in lower half](https://cdn.bsky.app/img/feed_fullsize/plain/did:plc:v5i6fwhfhcf23adcj6wewubo/bafkreietluycdjzwcnx2qwe2tsrd5wc5olycmau446xlwg53lbpcwn6wfu@jpeg)

@bobalob93.bsky.socialDay 125 of posting some art every day! A slight variation on my Mimic piece today, as I felt that on the original one the creature got a bit lost in the background, so I tried to make things pop a bit more for this version.

@bignerdsam.bsky.socialI like the setup for mimics in Dungeon Meshi where they're basically giant hermit crabs.
Also it's important to, before cooking, humanely chop and cleave the front half of a lobster or crab to destroy its nerve cluster and let it pass humanely.
