@packrat74.bsky.social#genealogy Where was this feature when I was complaining about suggested parents? Why can't they offer this feature at the end of a line where I actually might want it?
You can (unlike the census compare) only compare one tree to yours at a time.
@packrat74.bsky.social#genealogy Ancestry's newest version of
"Are you *sure* you don't want to compare your trees to other people's trees? Are you *really sure* you don't want to?"
Seen as an option while I was navigating to profile on one of my trees.

@packrat74.bsky.social#genealogy A bright-shiny object I had completely forgotten about.
Why couldn't I have revisited this record on National Coming-Out Day?
Possibly a sibling of the person whose records I'm reviewing today, but I'll save this for further research later.

@wscalfaro.bsky.socialThanks for sharing. I'm "somewhat" comfortable w/ probate records, but I'm finding I need to look at older, maybe Court of Chancery records in Albany County. The learning curve is steep for me. #genealogy #familyhistory #courtrecords
@nextlayertech.bsky.socialLay the prints on the table, take one photo, and get straightened, restored scans back.

@packrat74.bsky.social#genealogy And the main page of the document I was saving had no transcript available for the backside when I looked at it the first time. I had to go back in the filmstrip and then scroll forward again before the transcript features showed up.

@wscalfaro.bsky.socialI spent today learning about historical NYS courts and their records. I still don't understand all of it, but it's a good start. Maybe I should make flashcards? #genealogy #familyhistory

@packrat74.bsky.social#Genealogy See also: Let's use the FamilySearch Family Tree profile number as the Identifier in our genealogy software! That won't change ... oh, wait.
@packrat74.bsky.social#Genealogy No, I don't save files with the name of the person in them. I have pointers to which files belong to each person. What do you think computers are for?
Why are we constantly searching for things by person names, which we know are one of the most variable things about a person? 🤔
@packrat74.bsky.social#Genealogy "Oh but the DGS-image number isn't a DOI, you should save the DOI" and then they give us some gobbledy-gook looking thing bristling with characters you can't put in a filename. Don't get me started on the ARK numbers either.
@packrat74.bsky.social#Genealogy
Would it kill them to give us a download file name of Transcript (DGS-image).pdf? Why do users have to rename everything as they go?
@packrat74.bsky.social#Genealogy I really don't understand why developers do what they do. In Family Search Full Text search, you download a record and it gives you some generic filename, unless you hit the little info circle.
Then it gives you a filename DGS-image.jpg which is what I want!
Want a transcript? generic
