Happy #BannedBooksWeek!

#FreedomToRead #NoBookBans #LetBooksBe

Several pink, orange, and blue cartoon characters reading books under the words "Protect the freedom to read - let books be - Banned Books Week Oct 4 - 10, 2026"

It’s #BannedBooksWeek and my 10yo is out and about in her “Read Banned Books” tshirt.

There are lots of kids books banned for seemingly ridiculous reasons but there are also so many banned for more serious, often bigoted reasons.

It’s all bad and an affront to the #FreedomToRead

Let books be! The freedom to read unlocks imagination and creative thinking. This week let’s celebrate books! #bannedbooksweek #readbannedbooks #freedomtoread #authors #writers

This #BannedBooksWeek, we want to be clear: everyone deserves the freedom to choose what they read and to see their own stories on the shelf.

Check out a challenged title from your local library and tell us what you picked.

If families witness censorship/ bookbanning in K-12 public school libraries—file a confidential report. Do it for the kiddos.

TODAY’S ACTION: Read a banned book!
Check one out from your library or purchase a copy, then leave a positive review when you’re finished. Supporting challenged books also means supporting the authors who wrote them.

Yes, they’re banning books about butts and farts.

You really can’t make this stuff up.

Kid 1: I saw (x book) at the book fair. I don’t think it’s appropriate for the TK kids bc it’s scary. Maybe they shouldn’t have it there.

Me: If we said it can’t be there bc some kids would scared, that would be —

Kid 2: Banning books!

Kid 1: oh! Yeah we don’t want that!

Your TBR probably has room for one book that challenges your usual reading habits.

Which banned or challenged title would you recommend to another reader?
