Starbucks calls these protein drinks "sugar-free." The FDA says sugar-free means less than half a gram per serving. Starbucks' own menu lists 16 to 21 grams.

Their defense? The sugar came with the milk.

#politicalcartoon #satire #editorialcartoon #starbucks

Editorial cartoon. Outside a nightclub-style entrance with a sign reading "Starbucks Sugar-Free Protein Bar," a milk carton labeled "Protein-Boosted Milk" in a sequined gown walks arm-in-arm with a sugar cube wearing a trench coat, fedora, sunglasses and a milk mustache. The sugar cube says, "Relax. I'm with the milk." A bouncer shaped like an iced coffee cup, wearing a "Security" shirt and a "Sugar-Free" button and holding a clipboard reading "Guest List — No Sugar," lifts the velvet rope to let them in. A sign by the door reads "Sugar-Free Caramel Protein Matcha — 16 g sugar." Caption: "No sugar added. Sugar invited."

Bari Weiss pulled a 60 Minutes story on CECOT a day and a half before it aired. That's the CBS News David Ellison built.

His deal for CNN is set to close today.

Light a candle.

A smiling undertaker resembling David Ellison, wearing a SKYDANCE pin and holding a clipboard reading 'Skydance closing: Tuesday,' measures a frightened red figure labeled 24-HOUR NEWS for an empty second casket. "Let There Be Irony"

HECO promises to "shed some light on the situation." The lights immediately go out. My new cartoon on the utility that can't keep the power on but can always find a way to raise your rates. 💡🔌

#art #cartoon #digitalart #editorialcartoon #illustration #climatecrisis #energy

My latest editorial cartoon, "Let There Be Irony," captures a moment that every HECO ratepayer will recognize.

A HECO representative stands before a room of frustrated customers at a community meeting. She's calm, professional, reassuring: "Don't worry, we're going to answer all of your questions. We're here to shed some light on the situation."

Then—THUNK. The lights go out. The room goes black, save for the cartoonish whites of the audience's eyes floating in the darkness. "Ah," the woman says, recognizing the irony of the moment.

It would be funny if it weren't so painfully true.

East Honolulu residents have been living through a slow-motion reliability crisis for years. In just two weeks, there were 146 outages within a one-mile radius of the Hawaiʻi Kai Shopping Center, adding up to 58,232 "customer-impacts." By comparison, the same radius around Civil Beat Plaza in Kaimukī saw 60 outages but only 379 customer-impacts. That's not a weather problem. That's a grid problem.

And HECO knows exactly what the problem is. The utility conducts root-cause analyses for every outage. It has detailed, specific answers. It just won't share them.

When Civil Beat requested the last 10 root-cause analyses for East Honolulu outages, HECO executives said they were preparing for a hurricane and couldn't immediately provide them. After the storm passed, they still couldn't provide them—and wouldn't say whether they ever would. As a private company, HECO isn't subject to open records laws. It's regulated by the Public Utilities Commission, which can require disclosures, but so far, that hasn't happened.

Meanwhile, the company is asking for a rate increase that would add about $11 to the average Oʻahu residential bill by 2028. That's $11 more per month for a utility that can't reliably keep the lights on and won't explain why.

De Niro and Ruffalo got up in New York Sunday and said it plain. Keep your hands off our vote.

Ohio, today's the last day to register. Early voting starts tomorrow. Don't let anybody make that call for you. @markruffalo.bsky.social

#politicalcartoon #satire #editorialcartoon #handsoffourvote

Editorial cartoon. At a New York rally under a "Hands Off Our Vote" banner, Robert De Niro jabs a finger from the podium shouting "Keep your #@%! hands off our vote!" Beside him, Mark Ruffalo, red-faced and fists clenched, bursts the seams of his blue shirt, buttons flying, saying "I'm gonna Hulk out." In the corner, a small, sweating Donald Trump crouches with his hands stuck in a ballot box marked "2026 Midterms," muttering "gulp." Caption: "You wouldn't like the midterms when they're angry."

Jeff Crank wouldn't sign the Epstein discharge petition. Even Boebert signed.

Then the vote was 427-1 and suddenly he was all in.

That's not courage. That's showing up after the fight for the photo.

Editorial cartoon. A smiling congressman wearing a "Rep. Jeff Crank (R-CO)" button strolls out of the U.S. House chamber, eyes closed, waving a tiny flag that says "YES!" A tally board on the wall reads "Epstein Files Act — Final Vote: 427–1 — Passed." On an easel nearby, a discharge petition is covered in signatures, but the line for "J. Crank" is blank. Confetti litters the floor. Caption: "Fashionably Brave." Signed T.W. Amburgey.

Last month, Sam Altman agreed we need to pace the frontier. This month, the world should accept some bad things happening for the benefits.

Nobody asked the world.

#politicalcartoon #satire #editorialcartoon #openai #samaltman

Two-panel editorial cartoon. Left panel, labeled "SEPT.": Sam Altman drives a convertible marked "AI" down a calm country road, stomping a brake pedal labeled "PACE," while a smiling family in the back seat, labeled "THE WORLD," rides comfortably. His speech bubble: "I agree with Dario that we need to pace the FRONTIER." credited to Axios. Right panel, labeled "OCT.": the same car speeds past a blurred "FRONTIER" sign as Altman floors a gas pedal labeled "BENEFITS," grinning, while the terrified family is pinned to their seats and a mailbox and fire hydrant tagged "SOME BAD THINGS" fly off the fender. His speech bubble: "The world should accept some bad things happening for the BENEFITS." credited to Politico. Caption banner: "WAIT… WAIT?!" Signed T.W. Amburgey.

⊚ Clay Bennett turns “the off-ramp” into a plank over open water: Trump at the tip, Iran war behind him, swords at his back.

⊚ Not quite the graceful exit the phrase usually implies.

⊚ A 𝐁𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡-thly different plank in the platform, eh? ⚓🪵🌊 #EditorialCartoon #IranWar

Clay Bennett editorial cartoon. Donald Trump is caricatured as a powdered-wig-era naval officer in a blue-and-gold coat and a tricorn hat labelled “TRUMP.” He stands at the very end of a narrow wooden plank extending from the side of a sailing ship labelled “IRAN WAR.” Behind him, several unseen sailors thrust swords toward his back, leaving him little room to retreat. Large text at left reads “THE OFF-RAMP.” The image casts Trump’s promised or sought “off-ramp” from war as walking the plank: an exit that offers no safe way out. Signed “Bennett / Chattanooga Times Free Press.”

Taking a break from politics for one of the cruelest stories in music: Milli Vanilli. History made Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan the punchline. They were never the villains. A thread.

Split-panel ink-and-wash cartoon. Left, in warm light, Rob Pilatus and Fab Morvan as young men in 1989, holding out their hands and a microphone, pleading. Right, producer Frank Farian sits in deep shadow behind a desk, his hand on a contract. Caption: "History got the wrong villains."
