This story has certainly picked up some global attention now, garnering a whole lot of attention for the #Disinfo2026 conference! Quite wild to see so much journalism focused on an academic event like this.

The controversy surrounding @disinfo.eu #Disinfo2026 in Vilnius raises questions that go well beyond conference sponsorship.

Governments are entitled to disagree with how a conference frames a discussion. Researchers must also be prepared to defend their methods, evidence, and conclusions...👇 1/4

#disinfo2026

EU drops sponsorship of disinformation conference at Trump officials’ request.

Today I have my answer: Canada, Lithuania and the EU’s diplomatic service withdrew their official sponsorship of #Disinfo2026, Europe’s leading counter-disinformation conference held in Vilnius, after the US State Department pressured multiple governments over their support for the event. 2/3

The only possible conclusion from this story is that it's worth paying attention to what's being said at the #Disinfo2026 conference.

As we process the DoS pressuring the EU to back off criticism of the US for being an agent of FIMI at #disinfo2026, and while we wait to see if the US will fund STOs for Serbia’s election, all of this was foreseeable in April 2025. quirkglobalstrategies.substack.com/p/from-the-r...

It’s odd to be an American speaker at #disinfo2026 after the US government has pressured its allies to drop support … while I’d conservatively say half of what I’ve heard on panels concerns *Russian* disinformation 🤔

EU, Canada and Lithuania pull out of disinformation conference after US pressure

The Trump administration was bothered by panels that referred to the U.S. as a disinformation threat.

The Trump administration pressured diplomatic officials from the EU, Canada and Lithuania to pull out of an international conference on disinformation after organizers announced panels warning of the threat posed by American government officials and the country’s influence broadly, according to excerpts of a State Department cable seen by POLITICO.
