India’s shrinking families and weakening neighbourhood bonds are leaving elderly people, widows and single women increasingly isolated—and sometimes dangerously vulnerable. ✍BHAWNA MALIK

Each country has a demographic footprint, a unique combination of how the population is distributed by age, how mortality varies throughout life, and where fertility is concentrated #demography

Here is the percent change in the compatible Canada and USA age group death rates from 1999 to 2024. The surprising thing is the Canada's middle age death rates went up very much like the United States.đŸ§ȘđŸ’Ąâ˜ ïž #Canada #USA #Population #Demography

I have been comparing Canada's and the USA's death rates for quite a while. This is the first time I have compared changes in age groups. This measure of change covers a quarter of a century and the changes by age surprises me more than anything I have seen while playing with mortality data for a long time. I came into producing this graph believing that Canada did a much better job than the United
States at bringing death rates down. The Canadians experiencing such similar increases in middle age death rates in this graph just surprised me more than anything else has in a long time. I have long believed that the increase in younger middle aged death rates in the United States was unique. Here I see Canada is imitating what I have long seen as the United States unique increase in the middle aged death rates.

I will do more with this to see what I can find out.

#geography #demography

đŸ‘šâ€đŸ‘©â€đŸ‘§â€đŸ‘ŠđŸŒ Fertility rates vary dramatically across the world’s most populated countries. DR Congo ranks highest on this list with 5.801 children per woman, while China records the lowest at 1.031. The global replacement level is around 2.1 children per woman. 📊
