I left a monastery at age 44. Went to college and got my BA at age 50. Then decided to become a therapist and got my MS at age 57. All on my own, working 4 part time jobs, and living in the bedroom of a friend.

I think deconstruction from a specific faith or church is a very personal journey. The most important part is learning to trust your gut and intuition. That means following what is inside you, not leaning into what others have found. This is hard when we've been told not to trust

Why are so many evangelicals willing to remain inside what critics describe as a cult-like system, even when the contradictions, manipulation and political exploitation are staring them in the face.

Written while struggling in a monastery:

“I yearn to have someone I can go to who will listen to what I say.

Who will understand my pain and not judge me.

Who will feel with me instead of lecturing me.

I yearn for someone I can speak to face-to-face

Like most people, my world isn't so black and white that my beliefs can be reduced to an oversimplified straw man. I can understand that you might need a coping mechanism if your conscience is bothering you about your political choices. Seriously, I recommend #deconstruction to grow your #faith.
