Yet again religious fanatics impose there will on the rest of us. Who the hell do mp’s think they are kicking out the rights of people to die with dignity when terminally ill. & as for the ones who never even turned up today. They won’t even get the sop of better palliative care #assisteddying

While I haven't followed #AssistedDying closely, I understood in countries which have it:
- End of life care improves/expands eg Canada
- Approx 1/3 approved for assisted death, don't use as end of life care proves sufficient (acts as insurance policy)

Of course that doesn't guarantee same here.

Bit concerned we don't seem to understand that an #MP can support a principle without supporting a particular bill about that principle. It's irresponsible to put through legislation on #assisteddying if they're not satisfied that safeguards are properly in place & the groundwork done. 1/2

British MPs just voted down the #AssistedDying bill 286 to 270 after having previously passed the bill & then meeting resistance in the House of Lords; this is a serious defeat for the #DeathWithDignity movement; shame on those MPs who changed their votes~!

While I can understand #AndyBurnham reluctance to commit himself over #Assisteddying I felt the way he signaled his intention to abstain could be seen as a NO vote
Even if he is prepared now to give funding and political support to improving paliative care it will not be available for ages

Every day I find more ways to be fucking appalled by my country and its elected representatives.
