However, I wonder if ‘27 is too late to capitalize on the ‘26 World Cup zeitgeist, claw back market share from Summit and brace schedule change.

I also think #Rapids96 overachieved in their August matches, which made the prospect of a USOC run and a first round playoff advance look more probable.

I think #Rapids96 FO, with or without Matt Wells, looked at the pre-WC roster & results, decided to take their medicine and punt to ‘27.

Smith & Wells both shifted the way they were talking about the season in the beginning of August.

By all accounts, Rafa wanted to stay with a raise. #Rapids96 not comfortable meeting his terms.

▫️Became win more in ‘26 & take a $4M haircut to sell Rafa ‘27

OR

▫️Get a player (Whittaker) you REALLY LIKE while you can & with an assimilation period ahead of ‘27
