I went back upstairs and tried on my swim suits, deciding on the French cut bikini. The waist band curved to follow the high thigh line, and this masked the fact I was maybe a little pre-period bloated. I wasn't sure if it showed, but Nan would comment if I had even the slightest pooch. After checking all the angles in the full length bathroom mirror, I felt I was showing myself to my best advantage. My legs looked long, and the barely there top made me feel I could be on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition.

Reasons I write Gothic Horror

Reason No. 1: Because, for a brief moment, I became a gothic monster to the people around me, although I didn’t realise it at the time. It only dawned on me years later when I sat down to write a novel based on my experience.

This morning, I parted ways with my editor over their pro-AI stance.

This wasn’t a decision that I made lightly. In fact, I genuinely wanted to keep working with them despite how they felt about using AI in the creative process as long as they left such technology out of my book. Even now, I’m going to refrain from mentioning this editing company’s name because I don’t want them to become the subject of harassment. But still, it hurts. I was days away from finishing revisions on my manuscript so that the company could put my book into a paperback format. Now, I feel adrift and I don’t know what to do.

I don’t regret being anti-AI when it comes to writing. I feel like I made the right decision in the long term despite how much it sucks right now. But I don’t like cutting ties with people, and in the event that the editing company ever changes their mind about AI usage, I’ll be the first one to recommend their services. I’ll always be grateful to them for the help that they gave me, and I’m truly sorry that things ended the way that they did.

Having said that, if anyone in the Bluesky writing community knows of a person or company that specializes in formatting manuscripts for physical print, could you please share their information with me? I’d greatly appreciate it.

Image with a "hi" bitmoji sticker, "human author" badge, and text. Text: About the Author. Though I've been on social media for a while, I wanted to reintroduce myself and create an "About the Author" post. I’m Kelsey Ketch, author of romantic, dark, and mythic fantasy. My audience ranges from older teens (Upper YA) to younger adults (New Adult). And I'm anti-generative A.I.
