With a full moon in the upper right corner of frame we see the silhouette of an owl perched in the top of a palo verde tree. S/he is in profile but is looking back over her shoulder giving some detail of an ear tuft and the hooked beak on the left. Though a very dark night, the full moon gives the sky a gray hue which adds contrast to the blacks of the owl and the tree branches.
Great Blue Heron, perched in upper branches of a bare tree. Spanish moss hangs down from the lower branches of the tree in thick clumps. The heron is on the upper left quadrant of the tree, and appears to be looking upwards towards the top center point of the tree. There is a much smaller bird there, a Boat-Tailed Grackle. Perched on a thin branch against a flat, pale blue sky, a black phoebe looks back at the camera while facing the other direction. Spots of early morning sunlight land on its face and back, but the rest of the bird is mostly in shadow. The black phoebe - unsurprisingly - is mostly black, except for lines of white on its wings and a hint of white on its breast feathers.
