Kakimoto walks through a poor, muddy neighborhood at sunset. On the left, joyful children play in the street—some run in a circle, one spins a top, and another holds up a folded paper bird beneath a fruit tree and flowers. Kakimoto looks back and waves at them. On the right, exhausted adults carry heavy sacks, sweep the street, argue with each other, or sit in silence. An elderly man smokes a pipe while another person sits curled up on the ground. In the distance, the crowded city rises beneath dark smoke and clouds, contrasting with the warmer light around the children.

THE STORY
The police tape was not a good look…anywhere honestly, but especially not for a museum where families and schools brought children to learn.
But Jefferson, the curator, had to admit he was happy the cops were investigating even if it likely meant hell from the Board of Governors and torpedoed any hopes of fundraising this year.
One child, he could dismiss to a careless parent or guardian. Maybe even two children. But when the third child went missing last week and then four and five this morning… this was a pattern.
The Baltimore Natural History Museum is huge, he thought. Assuming they hadn’t left the building, those kids could be anywhere. Not good at all.

A crowded medieval city street at sunset. Kakimoto stands in the center with his back to the viewer, wearing torn dark clothes and holding his head as he looks toward a grand cathedral and distant city towers. Around him, poor and injured people, beggars, soldiers, merchants, clergy, and wealthy citizens fill the street, creating a strong contrast between suffering, power, and privilege.
