#LFF screening 3: 'Call Your Bluff' – British comedy short films
★★★★☆
A good mix of eight shorts*, ranging from 2½ to 4 stars each. A highlight was Sally Phillips as a will-writing solicitor bringing a bit too much imagination to the task, in A Twist Of Hate.
#LFF film 2: No Good Men
★★★★★
I really liked this feminist drama set in Kabul in the run-up to the US leaving Afghanistan and the Taliban taking control

THE MAN I LOVE (Ira Sachs, 2026). I mostly enjoyed this series of glimpses into the New York creative scene in the 1980s, where Rami Malek plays Jimmy, a gay actor confronting his own mortality while also trying to hold it together for what’s likely to be his final stage performance. >> FilmSky #LFF
I am on the way to the #LFF screening of WILD HORSE NINE. Is McDonagh now doing a Greenaway bit with the titles?

The Man I Love - No surprise Ira Sachs has a more delicate and authentic grasp of Elsinore’s subject matter, but how relieving - and heartbreaking – to see Rami Malek used wisely for a change. A lesser Sachs with an affecting reverence for community and atmosphere in spite of the circumstances.
