At the ÖAI, we emphasize that to understand a 'hierotopos', we must study the space between the sites. Analyzing the geography unlocks the social and political strategies of the ancient Mediterranean. 🏛️

After being warned for years…even threatened…about “weaponizing” #GIS data such that it could be used against us to impact infrastructure…we now enter full force into an era of AI systems that can hack into systems directly.

Have utilities, government and industry prepared?

A query in unmap matches every name a place carries. ᐃᖃᓗᐃᑦ and Iqaluit return the same record, carrying en, fr and iu on the feature itself. Coverage is a sourcing gap rather than an engine one. #MapLibre #GIS unmap.dev?utm_source=b...

Tinkering with global map data again. Inspired by MS Flight Simulator X's quad-tree, this is 12 x 8 tiles of 256x256 16-bit pixels each, coloured for above / below zero elevation. #gamedev #gis

A greyscale map of Earth. Dark grey is above zero elevation.

anyone in #mapping #GIS have a shapefile/FC of US state-court jurisdiction boundaries? Or know someone who does? I have federal court district boundaries, but I'm lazy enough to not want to trawl through each state forcing all their court boundaries into a single file for my curiosity.

Tiny confession… I just love chrysocolla’s turquoise/teal color. These stalactites are very cool, and rarely preserved!

Brilliant aqua blue #chrysocolla stalactites from Ray mine, in the Scott Mountain area of Mineral Creek District, Pinal County, Arizona, US. cm. A most unusual example of this material because usually you get just stalactites loose and broken off, whereas this is basically a whole pocket cavity of small stalactites, spilling out of the protected pocket. The curved apartment blocks in this 1-meter color capture over Brest, Belarus almost look like they were designed on purpose to loop back on themselves. A striking bit of Soviet-era architecture from above.

Ok…back to the laugh.

While this one is for #GIS and #Geography folks, but I know everyone will crack a smile.

(heavens knows I'm thankful as today was a "here are the keys, see ya" days.. a whole day of nasty emails and poor choices of words - on my part 100%)..

but...maybe this will help? 3/12

A funny #GIS #geography #esri thread

Some days ya just need to think back about something funny to give you a smile and a laugh. This is especially true as I got home and noted I wouldn’t be able to do one small load of laundry as two out of three machines in the common room are on the fritz. 1/12
