Some lucky #ForcedPerspective from the #CIAS2026 made me giggle.

A cormorant tries to take on pilot Mike Tryggvason in his Edge 540 V3 racer aircraft.

A black and white image of a bird and a plane in silhouette against a cloudy sky. The bird (a cormorant) and the plane (the Edge 540 V3 racer aircraft) are flying in parallel across the frame from right to left. They appear to be of comparable size and wingspan due to the forced perspective of the shot.

The cormorant is leading, but with the Edge 540's top speed of 240knots it was only for the fractions of a second when this image was captured.

A close-up color photograph of a small sparrow captured in mid-flight motion against a weathered chain-link fence. The bird is turned toward the right, clutching a seed in its beak, with its right wing blurred in rapid motion as it beats against the air. The plumage glows in warm tawny brown, buff, and ochre tones, contrasted against the cool gray diamond grid of the wire mesh. In the dark background behind the fence, subtle green creeping ivy leaves cling to an urban wall.

#MacroMonday #FlyDay #ECK

A macro photo of a bumblebee clinging to the vivid red and white petals of a flower. The bee’s golden-yellow and black furry body is captured in beautiful detail as it feeds, while fresh green buds surround the flower. The softly blurred dark green background creates a dramatic contrast, making the colours and textures of the bee and flower stand out.

By the way, I was a bit apprehensive to post this for #flyday, but it turns out peacocks DO fly! It’s only for small distances to reach a branch or rooftop to be safe from predators, but it still counts.

I was chuffed with this picture of a peacock on a drizzly day, taken at Ruthin castle. Peacocks are so long! Getting it on the diagonal allowed me to fit more of the bird in without zooming out too much #flyday

At sunrise, a great blue heron takes flight from its perch above the pond and heads toward the shore at a nature area in Longmont, Colorado.

In this horizontal color photograph, a great blue heron is silhouetted in left profile in the upper-left quadrant of the frame, its wings down as it lifts off. Its legs have just touched the water, creating a splash beneath it. On the far right side of the frame, near center, is the branch perch from which the heron launched. The background is a silhouetted shoreline, while out-of-focus cattails and reeds in the foreground frame the heron and add context to the scene. The pond water reflects the golden-orange hues of the sunrise, helping define the symmetrical ripples flowing across the water.

A beautiful bird-in-flight photograph of a great blue heron relying on the wetland habitat so vital to its survival.

A great blue heron chokes down a large fish at a nature area in Longmont, Colorado.

In this vertical color photograph, a great blue heron fills the frame from the chest up in left profile, its long neck fully extended as it swallows a large fish it has just caught. Its beak is open and its tongue protrudes as the fish’s tail fins jut outward, still flapping, while the fish slips down the heron’s throat. The background consists of pond water and the rocky shoreline.

A remarkable documentary photograph capturing the dramatic moment a great blue heron consumes its catch in the wetland habitat so vital to its survival.
