Great views of the Shotwick Grey Phalarope this morning. Bumped into Justin & Kev on site who were en route to Lancs for the juv Pallid Harrier so I joined up with them and we were treated to a lovely fly by. Quite lucky as it seemed pretty difficult this afternoon. #ukbirding

I love the unbridled enthusiasm demonstrated by young birders just starting out and eager to learn. I was energised by a day out in Dorset and Wiltshire with @kidphotographer24.bsky.social, who enjoyed his first encounters with Spotted Crake, Woodlark and Stone Curlew #ukbirding

2. And onto Mainland and straight to Levenwick for the Siberian Stonechat. A delightful wee bird. Managed to pick up Yellow-browed Warblers, Brambling, Chiffchaff, Blackcap, Spotted Flycatcher at various places around South Mainland and Buff-breasted Sandpipers, too. #UKBirding

1. Fair Isle Day-6: my last morning on the Isle and having to leave early due to poor forecast. Newly arrived Olive-backed Pipit and Red-breasted Flycatcher highlights of a compressed mornings birding prior to flight to mainland. Brilliant few day birding. #UKBirding

Fair Isle Day-5: a quiet day given birds had clearly moved on. Little Bunting remained at Shirva and Water Rail was newly arrived at Vailla’s Trees. A late Green Sandpiper at Meadow burn also a newly arrived Yellow-browed Warbler remained at Plantation. #UKBirding

@robcrank68.bsky.social set today's #BirdOfTheDay theme; #WingsOpenNotFlying, birds with their wings open when not flying.

Found this Eurasian Spoonbill at Kilvington Lakes this morning. 3rd for the site. See alt text for others.

Eurasian Spoonbill, Platalea leucorodia, caught while flapping its wings, stood next to water by a bank of daisies. The black tips to the wings indicate this is an immature bird. Adults have all white wings.

Seen at Kilvington Lakes, Nottinghamshire on 4 October. Apparently only 3rd record for the site.Northern Lapwing, Vanellus vanellus, captured while spreading its wings high. Stood in muddy water. Seen at RSPB Adwick Washland, Dearne Valley, Nature Reserve, 21 September.Northern Lapwing, Vanellus vanellus, captured from directly behind while spreading its wings high. Stood in muddy water. High winds and driving rain made birding on Shetland challenging today. But we were eventually rewarded with this cracking Red-breasted Flycatcher, in a garden with Yellow-browed Warbler and half a dozen Bramblings. #UKbirding

Very close Little Stint below the Powderham Sea Wall, Exe Estuary. Very confiding, giving great views. Lots of local birders on site, who found a Wryneck feeding on the muds earlier but was not relocated after it flew into field. #UKBirding

With amazing views of a Little Stint off Powderham sea wall this morning, together with a juvenile Osprey fishing on the Exe and good company made a nice couple of hours.
Sadly we missed a Wryneck by 5 mins ☹️.
