🌀 It's currently the Atlantic hurricane season's peak period, but despite this no hurricanes have formed and the ocean is quiet. One major reason for this is the extraordinary El Niño that has developed.

It’s peak #hurricane season, and the Atlantic has been dead as a doornail. Sure, shear has been rampant due to El Niño. But it’s not just shear. The basin as a whole has been very “stable”, especially the Caribbean and Tropical Atlantic. 1/

Sept. 10th is the statistical peak of the Atlantic #hurricane season. You are most likely to find a tropical cyclone somewhere in the Atlantic basin on this day. Not this year. El Niño continues to suppress activity in the Atlantic, but the Pacific continues to be highly active.
