I was very fortunate to have my camera at work on this day in 2018. We had the most intense rain storm I have experienced, and, as we waited for the roads to be cleared of downed trees, we got one of the most intense sunsets I have ever seen.

Eine anscheinend rechteckige Wasserfläche spiegelt kurz nach Sonnenuntergang im Spätsommer ein viergeschossiges Gebäude mit gläserner Fassade, außerdem Laubbäume, Stufen und beleuchtete Nadelbäume. Zwei schlafende Wildgänse sind im rechten oberen Viertel des Bildes zu sehen.

Dieselbe Szene, aber von der anderen Seite und kurz vor Sonnenaufgang fotografiert an einem nebligen Spätsommermorgen. Diesmal erscheint die Wasserfläche, in der sich der (am Horizont) orange und wolkenlose Himmel spiegelt, wie ein spitzwinkliges Trapez. In Wirklichkeit ist es ein Tortenstück: Avantis-Gelände zwischen Aachen und Kerkrade vor fast zwanzig Jahren. Im Vordergrund, an einen Baum gelehnt, zwischen dessen Ästen die Mondsichel zu erkennen ist, mein altes Bike und mein damaliger Rucksack als Silhouetten

We are looking over leafy green shrubs along the shore of a large lake. There are around 30 ducks in the lake, swimming, diving for food, one standing on the tiny tip of a mostly submerged rock. The far shore is mostly wooded except for a small cluster of houses. The post sunset sky has turned vivid soft pink and violet. This is mirrored on the lake surface below, rippled gently by soft breezes and the wakes of swimming waterfowl.
