Voice doesn't have to mean autobiography. Plenty of writers with unusual backgrounds write about something else entirely, and it works, as long as their particular take on the world is visible from page one. The lens matters more than the material.

Short films prove that you don’t need hours to tell a story that stays with you. These 7 films have stood the test of time by making every moment count, offering plenty of inspiration for filmmakers looking to master the art of concise storytelling. #scriptsky #scriptsky+ #shortfilm #screenwriting

Did my annual rewatch of "The Lion In Winter".

Anyone who wants to be a #screenwriter should view this regularly. William Goldman (rightfully) is venerated for his Oscared "All The President's Men", but his brother James Goldman leaves him in the dirt with THIS staggering Oscar script. #scriptsky

To those screenwriters concerned at the snail's pace of their screenwriting, remember this:

Slow progress is still progress.

The irony of seeing writers post complaining about such and such contest or reader service using AI (usually not true and just sour 🍇 btw) then seeing them use it for their posters or concept trailers is kinda wild tbh. 🤷🏻‍♀️ #scriptsky

i also have to not let myself get distracted by the Shiny New Idea too much - i ended up going down a rabbit hole last night and while it was fascinating, it was not particularly productive 😂 #scriptsky

today i need to sort out act two of my outline for Maladies - i shifted some things around so act one ends on a punchier note, but that cannibalized some later plot points. so now i have to write myself out of that mess 😅 #scriptsky

I think this is a good sign at script read right?

Screenwriting tip #343

We readers get so many predictable scripts. Avoid cliché. Steer clear of the unremarkable. To keep us hooked, shock and surprise us with well-placed, story-relevant twists and reversals.

What you got, #Scriptsky?

Welp. Inevitably I did not do the things I set out to do today, but I did update/revise DUST ON DIRT so there's that. Tomorrow is proof-reading out the glitches I inevitably introduced.

Thinking I'll start dipping some toes with it again.

Fellow writers, what approach works best for finding your next project? I’m a logline/concept guy myself, but I know others may start with character, comps, setting etc. #ScriptSky

My entry to this week’s @killershorts.bsky.social Discord one pager challenge using the prompts.

When they said use the number seven I don’t think this is what they had in mind. 😬

I am who I am I guess. *sigh* Also, do I get bonus points for using maw? #scriptsky #horror #math

Just saw Coyote Versus ACME in the cinema and, just, wow. What an absolute crime against art it would have been for it to have never seen the light of day.

It is superb. Gave me the same awe I had watching Who Framed Roger Rabbit. See it on a big cinema screen - it rocks.
