Sometimes I do, but typically only when the voice itself is part of the storytelling, like when I write musicals. It’s very easy to insert my favorite Broadway voices mentally.
For more literary characters, I find it much harder for some reason.

No, and though I've referred to Wesley as gravelly/rough and Owen as raspy/soft, I realize now I've never really described kenzie's or rowan's voices at all. 🤔 #pretendpanel
Some voices are clearer in my head than others, esp. main characters vs. supporting cast. I also don't have many specific [voice] actors picked out. Actually, it's difficult to choose "voice claims" because some characters' voices are too specific and others are not specific enough. #PretendPanel
Not sure about *specific* voices—other than Korrin’s dad, who is Keith David—but moving along the vocal range:
Rehni is a bass, Korrin and Eyouin are baritones, Jarhem is a tenor, and Dhivra and Auvi are altos.
#PretendPanel For most of them, yes. Only two have voice matches -- Acanthus sounds like Davey Havok from AFI and Cypress has Hozier's voice.
Lykaia's got a nasally, thin voice. Azalea has a voice like warm butter, smooth and melting and full.
Rebecca's sharp, impatient, high, and shrill.
#PretendPanel 5. Finding voice claims is an important part of the creative process for me, at least for the main characters.
Ashrah has a deadpan voice, but also her "warrior voice" when she roars and screams and is in that battle mode. Plus, she has an Indonesian-esque accent with 🧵
After a couple of scenes, I end up with a good sense of the accent for each character, and that supports their vocab choices and when they interrupt others, or how much they curse. I have had a character's voice shift over a project, which means going back and retconning their accent!
Every character has a distinct voice, but I can't say I equate that voice with anyone in particular.
Gielle has a tendency toward loud with muttered curses.
Glass has a very neutral voice from speaking as so many other people.
Caly is soft-spoken, almost hard to hear.
#pretendpanel Sep 5th: specific voices in mind for your characters?
No. Not immediately. Apart from dialects, accents. That sort of thing.
But I'm a first person writer, so I get to be my narrator, and come to know them through all the senses.
One of my favourite characters sounds like the actress Judy Holliday (from the movie Born Yesterday). Another one sounds like a cross between Robert Stack and Robert DeNiro.
#pretendpanel I do! 😊
Angie is a mezzo-soprano. In my head, she's voiced by America Ferrera. Rich, warm, slightly raspy. Feminine, sharp, quick with a comeback.

🧵2/2
I’m more aware of the voices of secondary characters, like I would be of people around me.
Some are more noticeable than others.
I even went so far as to try to write some dialect for one recently!
#PretendPanel
I hear through the ears of my MCs, so I don’t think my POV characters have any noticeable traits when I write them. It’s similar to how a person often believes it’s only other people who have accents. 🧵1/2
Yes and no. I have ideas for how they sound. The tone, the timbre, the way their voices change during certain emotions, but not a specific voice.
That said, Liv from book 3 has a voice style that I 100% can hear in my head (she sounds like this lady)
#PretendPanel I love this question! I can absolutely "hear" what my characters sound like. Most have voice matches. If I'm reading my words back to myself, I "hear" it, but I don't have that inner narrator when I'm writing, necessarily. Only when I'm reading it back.

-I always picture my writings to be in movie or show format in my mind. I really don't picture my writings any other way: It's with the 5 senses, even in my voice with sound. It's pretty awesome.
Writers: Ever feel this way about your writing picturing like a movie?
