WATCH: #illini coach Bret Bielema discusses a 48-10 win over Southern Illinois

#illini Bret Bielema: Champ Smith is extremely talented. He's got a lot of room to grow. He's got a pretty good mentality. Just has to get experience.

#illini Bret Bielema: I thought James Kreutz had his best game.

#illini Bret Bielema: Jayshon Platt started running this week, so he's getting closer.

#illini Bret Bielema on Collin Dixon's start: "It's incredible. ...He's just extremely talented. Now, there's time he's going to get double-covered ... so we got to learn to make small deposits."

FINAL: #Illini 48 - SIU 10

Katin Houser: 23/29, 305 yds, 2 TD, 1 INT

DJ Williams: 20/38, 182 yds, 1 TD, 1 INT

#illini Bret Bielema: Javari Barnett "has an exceptional skill set that we'd love to take advantage of."

#illini Bret Bielema on radio: Excited to get Javari Barnett in. We've been building that one up.

#illini Bret Bielema on radio: We could've tackled better in the first few games, but we improved from One to Two and again Two to Three. I thought we've made some progress.

The #Illini played well, but like I said at the start of the game, they were expected to crush SIU. Next week will literally be a whole different ballgame against Ohio State. It could be ugly. Good thing I’ll be recording a podcast during the game and can record it then decide whether to watch. 😬

ILLINOIS POUND SALUKIS

#Salukis 10 | #Illini 48

#illini freshman Michael Clayton now in at QB

#illini freshman WR Jacob Eberhart gets some playing time, and executes a nice block to spring Boyd for a first-down run.

Javari Barnett with his first touchdown as a member of the #Illini!

Big fan. This young man has a bright future, and he gets it started this afternoon against the Salukis.

Another #Illini TOUCHDOWN! Barnett runs it right in!
