A royal tern has an orange bill, black crest with white and grey feathers. This one is standing on the sandy shoreline with scattered Coquina shells and its head turned looking out to sea. Two orange kayaks are at the top.

Interesting information :
Common along tropical and subtropical shores, the Royal Tern is a characteristic sight along the Gulf Coast and southern Atlantic Coast, less numerous in California. Aside from a few interior localities in Florida, it is almost never found inland except after hurricanes. Royal terns live almost exclusively along warm saltwater coastlines, beaches, barrier islands, and estuaries.

Unlike typical wader shorebirds that walk along the mudflats, royal terns hunt by flying 20 to 30 feet above the water and plunge-diving into the surf for small fish and shrimp.
