Macro of a Hawaiian beet webworm moth in a head-on portrait. Facing directly forward, she has large, prominent patterned compound eyes and a dark brown face with fine, pale scales lining her vertex. Her long, slender antennae extend upward and back out of the frame. Her folded wings show rich dark brown margins and a hint of a bold, bright white structural band cutting through the dark coloration. The subject focused against the rich texture of a dried brown Bidens alba seed head and soft background bokeh.

Thursday 1st October
A nice find at Glasgow Western Necropolis and perfect timing.
Stigmella salicis : tenanted leafmine on Eared Sallow. Collected for rearing. Checked on it early evening to find the caterpillar had exited the mine and had started to make its cocoon.

A very poor catch last night 1/10/26 at home in St Helens, but I still managed to get a new micro species for the garden and St Helens, an Acleris hyemana, smart looking moth. #Teammoth #StHelensBirding

Half of the moths in last nights garden trap (Chichester) were Lunar Underwings. There was a nice range of colour variation. #teammoth

3 moths on the end of a lolly stick. They are all Lumar Underwings but the left two are light brownish and the right one is a dark grey/brown.

#teammoth trap contents very sparce this a.m. So spent some time bringing my spreadsheet up to date (I should have kept it contemporaneously🙄).

All good however, as I found a Moth I hadn’t entered back from July 9th. NFG #491 Eucosma conterminana (Lettuce Tortrix). It’s new for the tetrad. 🔲
