#SunsetChat I want everything I write to hit the same combo of emotions that the end of Arcane ep6 hit for me when I first watched it. Plus The Hug from the end of Tangled. But more horrifying. These are my guiding lights

#SunsetChat I want everything I write to hit the same combo of emotions that the end of Arcane ep6 hit for me when I first watched it. Plus The Hug from the end of Tangled. But more horrifying. These are my guiding lights
#SunsetChat I actually think Cary (from the VerdTech universe, not the Achilles Protocol universe) might be my most comfort character right now because he's my horrible son who has every disease. I've got an Omega Squad prequel rattling around in my head, actually
#SunsetChat So there's a plague in False Horizon, a manmade, primarily bloodborne pathogen with symptoms similar to meningitis or encephalitis. And unfortunately, it got out of the lab before they made a cure. Even worse, it got out because Leecie got dosed with it. Whoopsie.
#SunsetChat ooh, fun question! False Horizon is a spicy, creamy tomato bisque. Tomatoes because that's a big Tennessee crop that grows well into fall, which is when and where the story happens. Spicy because it'll hurt ya. But there's a sweet dash of cream to cut it, too
#SunsetChat Leecie has some preferred stims: picking at her fingernails (bad), fidgeting her ring, tying knots in her hair (also kinda bad), and of course, sobbing into Bolton's chest (nice). Having someone rub between her shoulderblades helps too
#SunsetChat I'm gonna do this super late because I had a weird day and I wanna yap on the internet to feel better. So hiya, I'm Julie as always, professional only sometimes. I'm (seriously, for real this time) almost done with my apocalypse sequel!
I wish to continue to draw attention to my #BackerKit:

Heart of Oak was inspired and built on various ideas from the following:
Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Overlord
How to Train Your Dragon
Halo
Gears of War
Command & Conquer 3
Violet Evergarden
Steins;Gate
Log Horizon
Atlantis: Lost Empire
Shadow of the Colossus
& Various Metal Bands
#sunsetchat I had a reviewer compare the kingdoms of Kaelum to Labyrinth (fae, portal fantasy, a bit dark), but I feel like the vibes are a bit more Narnia… maybe somewhere between those two, but make it queer normative with an ace-spec FMC.
#SunsetChat Q4
My best writing is when I’m “emotionally charged”
I don’t really have comfort characters. I just write whatever is next in the timeline/plot
#SunsetChat Q3
Saliorah, the world this series takes place on, fell from the grace of modern medicine. So ailments like measles, flu, chicken pox, and everything else are just commonplace, sometimes deliberately spread as bio weapons
Tho, severe infections remain in the cities themselves
#SunsetChat Q2
Heart of Oak is a hearty potato soup with multiple thick pieces of plot stewing in a soup of cheesy comedic moments, and flavorful emotional heart-wrenching moments
#SunsetChat Q1
Oakengrove finds comfort in the absence of everything else. He is the Father of the Forest and all of his comfort comes from that aspect
He simply lets his mind go blank in the presence of just trees and water. No animals, no people, just the breeze
I actually posted art this week:
And don’t forget, this month all my ebook sales benefit the Imagination Library. Stray angel faces himself and finds home! Very queer!

Um.
The Tempest, but specifically the version with Helen Mirren playing Prospero. No, I will not be explaining myself at this time.

Tharaiyelagh, my feral dragonboy, is definitely one of my comfort characters. So is Baleirithys, genderqueer disaster prince. And Rahi and Seikhiel, but don’t tell them, because they are insubordinate af.
#sunsetchat
One of my major characters has a chronic dragon-specific encephalopathy called Hoarding Sickness.
Half of Seyzharel was ravaged by Hoarding Sickness a few centuries ago. In Tools of the Trade, MC is just learning the extent of the damage.
#sunsetchat
Pumpkin black bean soup: simple, hearty, and full of spices that would be expensive in a different century.
(This was actually a difficult question.)

I’m a sun-baked, humidity-soaked, heat-exhausted, and now working dryad viking… I just got back from my 3-day LARP event in Chicago
I am the MMORPG tank and berserker, all-in-one
