There are! In DEAD BEATS, there are quite a few instances of characters singing. Gina and Seymour even perform in a couple of musicals together in college. Chuck also plays bass well enough to keep up with Metallica songs.

Nope.lol maybe one day!
I usually tend to find a way to squeak in a scene with music.
Sometimes it's a ball with an orchestra or quartet. Others it's a private moment of ballet or relaxation.
Or it could simply be a character putting on headphones to drown out the world.
Perfirion in "We Who Walk in Shadow" is a bard, providing musical inspiration and healing both in and out of combat to fellow members of the knightly order of the Eagles of Avikella. In several scenes, his song-spells carry the day.

The early drafts of Forest of the Morning had more extensive lore around the songs & legends of the magefolk.
The only piece of that to survive into the final version is the side character Elithan, a soldier who also sings & composes music with a 11-stringed lute.

Definitely the whole Winter's Wrath series, all the guys—and one girl from a band they co-write with, VXI Hours—live and breathe music...when they're not getting into all kinds of trouble lol
One of the songs in the Backlash audiobook? The narrator did an acoustic version.
Though it's not a musical, various 70s-90s subcultures feature a fair bit. The Krewe's childhoods are kinda horrific, & music provides an escape. For example, Green Day's "Welcome To Paradise": youtu.be/UMtxpzlXKvc?... could be sung by Peyton arriving in the Lebanese warzone at 15.

Hmm, not so much. No musical characters, certainly - closest we come is a scene where Mira mentions that she likes to sing but no one else likes it when she does.

Ahahahaha... look, one of my MCs (Damien) is the lead singer of a rock band, while the other (Ben) is the owner of a rock club. Suprising absolutely no one who knows me. Music is an important part of Inkfeather, although not the main thing. Still.

Hmm. Haven't got there yet in the manuscript, but I'd think Traitor by Livingston is a good enough pick for this.

It was harder than it should have been, and I literally just had the solution coming up this morning. It's I'll Be There by Jess Glynne. Could go either for Gigi and Wendy's friendship, or rather for Damien's found family Mikes and Avery.
While I do headcanon TY4LM's anime opening to be the Requiems + Dylan as a band performing the opening song, Nerissa and Dylan might be the only MCs that play instruments (guitar and bass respectively).
The MC trio do go to a concert featuring real bands. All the bands are >>>

I apologize beforehand for the deluge of reposts, but I haven't been online much over the weekend, so playing catch up.
Joke songs. Um, yeah, I don't think I have any? Maybe Can't Go to Hell by Sin Shake Sin, but I already picked it before.
Juniper Wharf has many, many musicians. Which has been fun for me to try and research into the music process, touring, and the industry in general!
A little moment from Dido on the Edge where Wendy literally sweeps our heroine off her feet.

There is a singular song in the series. I haven't written it yet, as it's pretty far in, and the lyrics don't really matter as much as the sentimental meaning behind it.
It's the only song that Spiral knows how to play on her guitar. It's special to her, and to one other person.
They're sound mana, but it doesn't have to be musical, so... not really in book 1.
Book 2 has Sono, the Ficioanima of Sound, and a side character named So-hee. So-hee used to sneak out and sing across the hills, and Sono would join in to sing with her~

Time for you to just talk--no examples required, but they're welcome if you want~
Are there any musical characters or plot beats in your story?
Don't forget to tag!
This sounds fun! Right now one of the tunes on my #SongsOfSeptember list matches perfectly with the climax of my current #WIP! It's FALL by Derivakat!
This one gets looped A LOT and refuses to leave the top of my On Repeat playlist!
...It's a good kind of hurt, though! ( •̯́ ₃ •̯̀)
