#PretendPanel

Definitely~ I hear unique voices for all of them in my head, which helps me with their dialogue. It's hard for me to fully describe, but Emily has a very light voice, Nanashi's is light for a guy, Victor's is very mellow and polite, Rota's is high and delicate...

@communi-kate.bsky.socialSep 6, 2026, 7:58 AM

Chugata is very like Miguel in personality, despite being different in every physical way. Narakal is definitely Tulio...

Thanks for the prompt!

#PretendPanel I don't...yes and no. I listen to audiobooks, and sometimes my characters take on the voice of random characters I've heard. Most of the time their voices just pop into my head from nowhere. I'm sure I've heard the voices somewhere before but can't tell you from where.

I hear in that I hear the characters voices. As I write I 'hear their conversations'. I don't hear it with my new book yet, but that's only because I haven't decided how I want him to sound just yet. So far all I got is dejected.

Specific voices, no. Specific tones, sure. Especially the cocky characters

5) Specific voices

Oh not only do I have specific voices in mind. I have specific voice ACTORS who would do their voices.

Renard: James Arnold Taylor
Jenette: Rebecca Sanabria
Killer: Laura Bailey
Speedy: Zach Callison
Yoshi: Mako Iwamatsu (yes, I know he's dead. 😢)

#PretendPanel

Renard: a fox with blue eyes, wearing a bandana.Jenette: a vixen with brown eyesKiller, a Deinonychus with brown feathers and green and black tiger stripes. Shown in several poses: jumping, leaping, sitting, and snarling.

I talked about this a bit about a week ago in relation to one of @cometkins.bsky.social's questions, linked below, but that was mostly MCs: bsky.app/profile/alex...

To expand, some characters are more distinct than others. Some are very distinct, like Gwen's niece Mona looks and

A few. Jack was inspired a lot by a specific person and his voice strongly flavors Jack’s in my head, especially his accent.

Others, I really don't hear consistently, but I do hear their soeach mannerisms pretty consistently.

Yeah, I have dialects and even spell dialogue phonetically sometimes, though I try to stay away from stereotypes because indulging in that would be pretty shitty

They're playing their movie in my head, so I hear them, as they speak, voice, accents and all.

#PretendPanel Sept 5: I always hear their voices very distinctly, though only sometimes does that map to a particular actor's voice. I was terribly delighted when Khristine Hvam, narrator for the Aven Cycle audiobooks, had Latona sound rather like Susan Egan's Megara. Absolutely perfect for her.

@pjccahill.bsky.socialSep 5, 2026, 6:28 PM

Directly related to yesterday's answer: I think I do, but my brain warps it over time. I used to do voice-claims a LOT, but as I learned more about how voice actors are hired, I gave up XD So, I'll just say I have a 'range tolerance' for each character that I'd consider 'accurate.'

Okay, now that I've chosen to continue Caelan's story... Hell yes! Caelan doesn't say much, observes much, and catches everything. So when he speaks, he's delivering a blow to someone's psyche, or a seduction, or dropping lore bombs. His friends are sarcastic noblings, no less sharp. #pretendpanel

Yes, I do.

Not specific clear voices, more just the general tone/pitch/rhythm.

My brain s t r u g g l e s processing audio sometimes, so I am incapable of voice-casting my characters. Completely draw a blank. Esp my Atalantis bbs because they all have a unique accent in my head.

I do! They're often anime/video game voice actors since that's what I most engage with, lol. Occasionally, they're streamers or singers.

I created my Good Thyme Inn gang when I was watching a certain streamer group and they ended up becoming my headcanon voices for a lot of them😅

So, I hear my voice in my head with ALMOST every conscious thought I have. It's kind of exhausting at times. As I'm typing this, I'm hearing the words as if I'm narrating, & my fingers are just a stenographer.
This naturally translates to my writing. But it can be a bit strange🧵

Good morning, #PretendPanel!

As a total novelist newb, I'm letting these characters --- who I'm JUST now meeting --- take the wheel. NO EXPECTATIONS on my part whatsoever. Mostly, I've been taking a medicinal dosage of THC, letting my mind wander, & jotting notes down as is appropriate. 🤷‍♂️😂

@4islesbookshop.bsky.socialSep 5, 2026, 3:24 PM

Good morning, #PretendPanel!

We DO hear what we write! Can't say we've ever *seen* what we're writing, though.

As a memoirist, it was easy to listen, because the voices telling the story are YOURS. Now that we're moving into novelist territory, we've had to intentionally silence ourself[ves].
