On a black and star field background, a non-AI tagged Pixabay image of an android is shown. The android seems to be contemplating the #ScifaikuSaturday hashtag. A blue, rectangle outline highlights the image and hashtag.
Air
Invisible, brushes past,
like winter soup thick and warm,
rich in nitrogen and vast.
Spreading around our blue globe,
magnificent fluid robe,
now it wears dirt thin, worn out.
We stand in the street and shout
We are here, we are the swarm!

Eve
By Dawn Mclachlan

"What did she expect?"
when she stepped into a world fresh and newly green with arms open wide
and the fairness of the morning upon her upturned face?

"What was she thinking?"
that her steps would be as level as those that went before
and that the world's light and shade could be shared
without consequence or expectations?

"What was she wearing?"
Did she assume
that her shape was her's to command and it would never matter what she wore
and that the apple wasn't rotten at the core?

Sweet Spores!

No Shit!
We just fucked the rot!
Why else would it smell
so sweet
in the goo, beneath
mushrooming fungi?

Eyeless in Mycelia

Become the
Predator you
Purport to
Be:

Soften your gaze,
Relax your focus,
Suspend your watch, and
We will
Scatter-gun your
Retina with our
Fruiting forms.

Pluck and
Pluck again -
You cannot
Kill us. These are not
Blossoms, but
Excretal blooms of our
Ungual-plated
Needlework.

Your
Delight at our
Fetid, fleshy
Polyp rooted no doubt in
Unchecked pica:
Oyster-grit nose junk,
Salted-crunch eye gunk,
Gristly scurf-scab.

Masters of abjection, we
Cannot be seen,
Cannot be unseen.

Masters of degradation, we
Repel nostril,
Addle decorum,
Reek of your
Fragility.

You keep upright
Stinkhorn hidden away under
Lock and key from
Wanton maid and stable lad;
Cremate its tumescence in
Drawing-room
Fireplace.

Unbeholden to your
Sighted kind, we are
Pitch-black, eyeless
Viscera and lumina -
Blind-tangle of filament
Free-forking over
Mile and
Millennia.

In
Frosted charnel grounds, we
Erupt as
Thawed corpse-fingers,
Feeding indigent folk at the
Dead heart of
Winter.

Insecurity's Horror by Robert Emond

There are those who live a life dominated by fear.
Believing the isms
capitalism
nationalism
classism
grant security.
They grasp for the illusion of control seeking money and power.
The empty shell of their cowardice roams society,
Like the zombie masses they would fear the most.
Ironically inflicting insecurity on those who live a balanced life.
The difference those with balance keep both feet on the path to enlightenment
While they live as an empty husk devoid of meaning an joy.

Photo of a maple tree in Baltimore, Maryland, USA, on November 25, 2025. Brilliant red leaves catch the sun, especially on the left side of the image. Naked, light-barked trunk of another tree shows through in the lower left quadrant, appearing pale yellow in the warm light. Blue sky with some light clouds.
