Fault Lines
By Dawn Mclachlan

In silvered tracks on papery skin the past walked
carrying all that went before defining
describing
the way the world worked
back then
before time began
before the Flight
But decades later
in startled moments
the vertigo of Fault Lines
still cracked like ice
"Look what you made me do"

My poem titled Waves.

…

I stand in front of the ocean’s shoreline.
My earbuds fall out of my ears,
and as I reach down, I notice—

it’s eerily silent.

The rustling leaves,
people chasing cars,
passing trains over rivers,
I hear it all…

but the waves are silent.

If they could make a noise,
I wonder what they would sound like…

the waves drifting in the sky.
