$She Forgot to Be Afraid (2026) Art by Nataliya Bagatskaya Acrylic This painting captures a suspended psychological moment shaped by lived experience during the war in Ukraine. A young woman stands barefoot in a quiet interior, her calm presence carrying a sense of fragile resilience. Beyond the window, a distant fire burns under a crescent moon—a subtle but unmistakable reference to the reality of ночі, коли вогонь на горизонті стає частиною повсякденності. (nights when the fire on the horizon becomes part of everyday life.) Inside, the space feels intimate yet slightly disjointed, filled with objects that echo memory and identity. A black cat sits alert at her feet, embodying instinct and silent awareness, while a painted hare inside a cabinet introduces a surreal element—something caught between imagination and truth. The contrast between the stillness of the figure and the distant destruction creates a deeply human tension: the ability to remain composed while the world shifts. This work speaks about inner endurance, about holding oneself together when reality fractures.$

“I have lived nine lives, and that which I have done
May Cat within Himself make fur! But thou,
If thou shouldst never see my face again,
Purr for my soul. More things are wrought by purrs
Than this world dreams of…
But now farewell. I am going a long way…”
