Kingfisher hovering just above the water, wings tucked back and beak pointing upward as droplets spray around its body, with its vivid turquoise-blue and orange plumage sharply in focus against a soft, natural woodland background.

A great example of what a “bird brain” can process in a split second. Barrel roll, wing and body control, trajectory, water droplets and closing the nictitating membrane, all happening in one moment.

A Collared Dove perched on the stump of a palm tree in a park. The bird is left of centre of the shot, sitting on the stump of a limb of a palm tree. It is facing right so that its right side is showing.
It is a medium sized bird with pale grey-beige plumage and a thin black beak. It has a dark red eye and a black collar on the nape of the neck. The outer wingtips have a grey outline. It’s deer can be seen partially hanging over the stump and appear a darkish colour. The tail is obscured.
Behind the dove another palm trunk with a light, sandy appearance travels from the bottom left to top left of the frame, tilted slightly left as it goes up. The background is palm leaves, out of focus, taking up the entire scene with white light visible through the gaps.
