A21. Creation and destruction and the results therein are major themes in TSBH. Music and songs come up as important arbiters of history. Also my MC Ari has a lovely singing voice #SongsOfSeptember

Book 2 of TWT, Bards and Brooches, actually centers around musical characters!

Veldi ends up helping Eirene, the bard of a traveling circus troupe, after her heirloom brooch is stolen. Eirene & her partner, the musician Forsythia, are considered the troupe’s rising stars.

Yuni's always listening to music while fighting the Shades. In the hypothetical video game version of hyvoltage, its part of the combat system. Whenever I get around to a more plot-important fight, I plan on incorporating the lyrics of what she's listening to into the composition

Songs are a part of magic in "Hell Is Work."

The main ritual at the climax that must be disrupted was cast a while ago by someone very special to Virgil: Raphael, his unrequited love.

Raphael's song, used in the casting, was "Paint It Black".

Well, my main story is an ongoing serial about a rock band. So... yep. Most of the ensemble cast are musicians, plus many plots focus on music.

That's too much to list, but an interesting thing is how the music mirrors the emotional journeys of the characters.

In my current WIP, one of the MMCs is a musician so yes! So far I know that he can play the violin, electric guitar, and drums

One of the main characters Artyom is a bard! He sings and plays the lute.

Calypso is my main musical character! She's a siren, so she performs magic by singing, and it's very important to her expression.

I also reference J'Nique Nicole for her voice, mostly because she's a GORGEOUS singer, as demonstrated by Memories of Dust from NieR Automata:

#SongsOfSeptember No, but I'm debating on adding one. I'm just not sure if i can (in this story) to be honest.

Yes, actually. The sixth Raven & Bear story, titled The Eisteddfod, takes place at an Eisteddfod. What a strange coincidence!

If you don't know, an Eisteddfod is a festival celebrating the Welsh language through music or poetry. It's led by druids and bards.

The Love Interest of Thawing the Line and the MMC of Permafrost Heart (same person)
Is a frontman of a masked band!
The four members of the band are all anonymous and go by stage names:
Vex on vocals and keys
Echo on drums
Caden on bass
Rune on the strings

Rushak is musical! Big part of his nature! He plays a small harp and sings with an enchanting voice both lovely ballads & satire. He was accepted to the bardic path among the druids but didn’t complete it. The stage is the one place he is free of being reviled for his curse.

And when the others stopped at the close of
the hymn, Rushak's little finger caught a string, a note to spark a new melody, and a broad and complex theme ignited in his soul. He shifted key and time signature, setting it loose with a whoop of abandon.
Others joined, hesitant at first, then fierce as the stars. Dancers circled in smears of color and gilt. And then—when the music crested the treetops in tongues of bright fire; when immolation brought ecstasy and drumbeats ruled his pulse; when his letra writhed, a
wanton sorceress under his fingershe recognized it as bliss too heightened to be real.

#SongsOfSeptember 21. Music plays a somewhat important role in #ChroniclesOfTheRealms. With its theme of unity and community, music bridges a gap between different cultures and species.

Some characters also play instruments and use music as a way to express themselves better 🧵

For 9AWD, there’s a side character who sings a song that holds great importance for her family. It’s not that the song itself has magical properties or anything like that. More so the memories associated with that song, and what it means to everyone she cherishes

@vampireantihero.comSep 21, 2026, 12:09 PM

#SongsOfSeptember Not in terms of like, musicals. But in Aloe, the lingering secondary antagonist has a music motif. It doesn't show much until later books.

In Such Sweet Sorrow, there's a focus on sound in regards to the haunting.

@glwalkerauthor.bsky.socialSep 21, 2026, 12:06 PM

In my edits of book 1, I hinted at Magnar playing the violin (we'll see if that sticks) but Kalua on piano in later stories comes up a lot on the page. One plot point is finding him an ancient piano thing to play

Hello #SongsOfSeptember !

Tldr: yes!

The big finale of At the Road's End takes place at a full moon ritual/rave in a forest.
One of the performers is Kilmarine Soskynuala (aka Ken), the highest ranking official of the elven branch of the Church of Ek (god of nature).
Ken plays electric guitar

Despite being such a music brain, I don't currently have any musically inclined characters or plot beats.

I have a character in a completely different project, which is a long way off...

Lillian the goth from Brooklyn, musician, classic rock fan, mystery-solver!
