#StetChat A2
I would have told them the reason already (although I might keep it vague depending on what it is). I'd still probably elaborate a bit if I can (especially if they ask politely, because if they *demand* I'll keep it short). And if they insist again, I'd ignore or block.

I would definitely feel the betrayal, though.

Oh wow, you work on that?! Very cool! I've been interested in that but haven't yet subscribed. #StetChat

Q4: A client rejects all your coaching suggestions and fails to make progress on their WIP from week to week. They swear they enjoy and want to continue coaching, but you feel like your time is being wasted. What do you do?

A2: If they were polite I'd elaborate so they know it's not a problem w/ their project. (I always try to point AUs to a next step.) If they were truly being rude, I'd cite schedule conflicts (which isn't even unrealistic bc it's the real reason I have to turn stuff down 80-90% of the time) #StetChat

Hi Sharon! Thanks for attending today's #StetChat. Is this your first one? Apologies if you've been to every one and I just forgot, I'm a bit under-caffeinated.

Oh the best part? That plagiarism made it into the published book.

Yes, I bought a copy to check because I'm petty. 🫠

A3: I am afraid I just don’t see how this scenario could happen to me. But then I usually have such wonderful people for clients. #StetChat

I proofread a quarterly magazine that still prints, and when I find that in public, I get very touchy-feely. And here I'll plug Nick Norlen's Paper Airplane magazine! It's a delight. #StetChat

A3: I haven't been freelancing long enough to have a big roster of returning clients; the ones I have are anti-AI.

A publisher I work for has a "no AI" clause in their contracts with me, so I would stop work and notify them immediately if I saw this.

Q3. #StetChat. This would definitely start a conversation. If the question was factual and in common domain (Who wrote Moby Dick?), that's one thing. Even so, I think my trust would be broken. If they weren't honest about this one time, how often had they been dishonest? I'd back away.

@getbookhelp.bsky.socialSep 16, 2026, 8:27 PM

#StetChat | A3.2: I've seen professionals go practically feral on writers before and I can understand the fear of disclosure in that case. Education and underscoring the benefits of transparency would be a key part of that conversation.
