If someone is dead and there is even a modicum of uncertainty regarding the circumstances, it is the right and just thing to investigate.
I feel the weight of Ecclesiastes 4:1-2. There is no one to comfort those who have suffered injustice. ⚖️

Critically, the state autopsy had already removed Wells' lungs and neck structures, making it impossible for Mitchell to determine if he had injuries to his neck or water in his lungs.
The independent autopsy performed by Dr. Roger A. Mitchell Jr. (president of Howard University Hospital) could not determine the manner of death.
Mitchell found "red discoloration" on the back of Wells' skull but could not determine its cause.
According to accounts given by Wells' friends, he chose to stay behind on the island while they returned to the mainland, saying he wanted to talk to a girl.
His body was discovered two days later on the island's northwestern tip.
The Incident
Wells went to Horn Island on July 4, 2026, with a group of friends—all of whom were white—to celebrate the holiday.
On September 22, 2026 (yesterday), a Mississippi grand jury concluded there was no evidence to warrant criminal charges in his death.
A decision that has been fiercely contested by his family and legal representatives.
Nolan Wells was an 18-year-old Black college student whose body was found dead on July 6, 2026, after a Fourth of July boating trip and party on Horn Island off the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The second pathologist in #NolanWells autopsy reviewed witness statements, interviews, and investigative reports. Yet, he "could not find any record detailing specific investigation into blunt force injury to the back of the head".
Smells like a cover up?
Nolan seemed not to matter.

Nolan Wells' second autopsy report also states that "if histology had been performed during the first autopsy, better results would have likely been present".
The report suggests negligent practices by the Mississippi pathologist.
Nolan does seem to have mattered.

Second autopsy report for Nolan Wells states "the original Mississippi forensic pathologist did not identify water in the airway nor was there gastric contents within the stomach". How could he have drowned? Doesn't seem like he ate or drank much either.
