@vanstanwyck.bsky.socialAuthor, lexicographer and humorist Leo Rosten wrote the original story. He also wrote LURED (1947), Lucy's second and last noir outing. And the Bogey, Nazis and cheesecake caper ALL THROUGH THE NIGHT (1942), not noir but earns a mention anyway for being awesome.

@vanstanwyck.bsky.social"Street Scene" was written for the eponymous 1931 movie set in New York City. From then on it was used as an aural cue for NYC in movies from noirs to musicals. Unlike many of its brethren, however, much of #TheDarkCorner was filmed on location in Manhattan. That's the real El!

@vanstanwyck.bsky.socialThat is no mean feat, because as soon as the Fox fanfare stops, the #NoirChecklist populates, starting with, you guessed it, Alfred Newman's "Street Scene" as the musical accompaniment to the credits. The real hardship is selecting from the plethora of choices.

@vanstanwyck.bsky.socialThe watch party is minutes away, but first, a challenge. #TheDarkCorner is replete with noir tropes, like a teacher's edition of @ctmillion.bsky.social's #NoirChecklist. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to post any checklist additions as you see them.

@dwayneadd.bsky.socialTV dinner at the ready and I'm sitting in a "dark corner" - which is appropriate. 🧐
I had to remind myself that Lucille Ball appeared in several film noirs during this period, but this one will be new to me.
