@stevewestenra.bsky.social#SFFChat Q2
I think it should have some kind of speculative science or fantasy 🤣
Genuinely, though, a speculative element of some kind. Sci-fi can range anywhere from dystopian, near-future (or just present?? 🤔) stuff, & fantasy can include sweeping epics as well as contemporary works with one
@coripalladium.bsky.socialProbably the world building. Now I was just having a conversation the other day with another bluesky user about how some people do too much world building, and I still stand by that, but the point of speculative fiction is putting the reader in a different world.
@gaycannibalism.bsky.social#SFFChat. Hi, I'm Tiernan, and oh shit I left my books at home.
I'd say a foundational element to my work is traps, or being trapped. Either literally or metaphorically. What people do to escape, whether they even try, how being trapped impacts them.
@sffchat.bsky.social#SFFChat Q2: What do you consider the basic building blocks of science fiction and/or fantasy? Or a subgenre you love/write!
@stevewestenra.bsky.social#SFFChat Q1:
Hello, everyone! I'm Steve, the host. I write SFFH and work on those genres academically.
Words. Words are fundamental. 😂
More seriously--and this is probably a weird answer--but I consider my work part of a larger conversation with other writers and artists, and so the relationship
@sffchat.bsky.social#SFFChat Q1:
It's back to school for a lot of people this month, so today we're back to basics!
Introduce yourself & share an element of your work you consider fundamental, or foundational.
