#SeptemberWorldbuilders …on the other hand, *The Island* does have a deity, called Q'Enmari, variously believed to be the Spirit of The Island, The Island itself, or (curiously) the captain of the ship who, more than four millennia ago, brought The People to The Island in the first place…

#SeptemberWorldbuilders Celesta is an ocean world (though not intentionally). However, the Islanders have never deified the ocean by imagining a *personified* deity. Nevertheless, they honor it and respect it. E.g., it is taboo for any waste to go directly into the ocean…

Yes, there is a god of the sea. He lives in the ocean.

Day 16

There's nothing near the sea in my current WIP. Yet one of my pen name's older books was about women pirates cursed by one of the hags of the seas (think Baba Yaga but living on a giant sea turtle!). The God of the Endless Seas makes an appearance at the end.

September Worldbuilders hosted by Kira of the Wind with each day of the month listed with its theme. Today is the 16th, and the theme is oceanic deities.

As an elemental force, the Sea would fall under the Primordial of Water, and likely have a few Lesser Primordials/Greater Spirits hanging around in whatever oceans are out there.

Alas, the Alliance is not a sea faring civilization, so no one really knows much about the seas.

16: In Karnassia, there are three sea deities: Alaes in Valestra (associated with water, the sea, the moon, winter, and tides) (though Stratil also plays a role as god of sailing), Ular the Allfather in Hroth (god of time, the sea, fire, wind, the soil, and knowledge), and...

For Dust and Shadows
-Closest would be the mermaids, but they mainly stay to Neverland’s lagoons. They’re not worshipped, but some think they’re bitchy snobs, and others think they’re pretty

There are many sea-related gods that vary by religion, and the way they're viewed is not really consistent.
However there are ocean spirits, who are that part of the ocean itself but also personified. For example the harbour has a spirit who is the harbour.

She's actually never been mentioned in my stories, but yes, the ocean goddess is named Endea, AKA the Devourer. She's seen as distant and ruthless, but also loving to her select chosen mortals. She's in a volatile, on-again-off-again relationship with the god of storms.

Our girl, Blún-Vek, is the Goddess of Life, Water, and Fertility. She's one of the only Gods whose innate appearance resembles a human. In this case a Galactus-size woman with six arms and a third eye. She tends to appear around oceans, rivers, and other sources of water.

I think the Sacred Dragon of the West must be worshipped as an ocean deity by some cultures, but I haven’t worked out which ones yet.

the people of Sun-Drop across the universes believe in nature spirits; there is a Spirit of the Sea of Sun-Drop. Every spirit has a song dedicated to it. Every spirit can be prayed to.

The Spirit of the Sea would be one for whom every islander knew the song 🪡

We're talking about our fictional world's oceans this week, #SeptemberWorldbuilders! Does your ocean have any deities who rule over it? How do people worship them or perceived them?

Week 3: Ocean
16: Does your fictional world have any deities associated with the sea? Doe they live in the sea itself or are they outside of it?

The background image shows a pink moon on the horizon of a sandy beach. There's a single mountain in the background. The image gives off vibes of peace and serenity and a little bit of magic

Oh, a bunch! “Sacrifice” is the most recent, with Arlise waking up on the beach beside Earc. She knows it’s time for her to return to duty, hates to leave him again, but gets up anyway. Her sacrifices are worth it if it makes a better world for him.

I have! It's not from my current WIP, but I can yap anyways: The scene is the MC reuniting with her co-conspirators at a beach after being in a coma for over a week.

Probably the most notable seaside "scene" I've written comes from Sunseeker, namely the Battle of Urlosa. The protagonists arrive at a coastal city that is assailed by monsters, and the next couple chapters are dedicated to its defense.

Day 15. A scene by the sea.

Vivan spends time by water all the time. She feels her best in the sea.

There is a seaside scene for one of my other wips. Largely inspired by Bedknobs & Broomsticks; an English partial witch (with Fae blood in her veins), 4 ignored children of a local aristocrat, & a Brooklyn Street Magician travel to the seaside 🧵P1

@ashwood-books.bsky.socialSep 15, 2026, 6:22 PM

I have not. Aldenmoor is near the center of Thessan, so a scene by any of the oceans is out of the question unless they took a several weeks trip, which wouldn't fit the timeline of the story, unfortunately.
