Unlocked 🔓
@mikemcintyrewpg.bsky.socialWelcome to a #NHLJets training camp like no other — one where the on-ice storylines and battles threaten to be trumped by what’s happening away from the rink.
@wiebesworld.bsky.social and I get you set with our detailed preview for @winnipegfreepress.com
@paulr31.bsky.socialI was here in Otttawa when the Senators turned Yashin into Spezza, Chara +
#NHLJets don't have to rush. They can't. This is too important to do Helle a favour. The distraction is on Connor not the team.
Chevy needs to have a Yashin return to reboot the team for the next wave.
@wiebesworld.bsky.socialThanks to those of you who submitted questions for the #NHLJets monthly mailbag for @winnipegfreepress.com 👇
@mikemcintyrewpg.bsky.socialOur monthly #NHLJets mailbag is now online @winnipegfreepress.com -- where excitement over the coming season was mixed with angst over the Connor Hellebuyck situation.
@wiebesworld.bsky.social and I tackled a dozen of your burning questions.
Dig in!
@mikemcintyrewpg.bsky.socialAlso, for those inquiring: I’m not expecting #NHLJets GM Kevin Cheveldayoff and HC Scott Arniel to speak until Thursday, when on-ice camp sessions begin. Wednesday is just medicals.
@mikemcintyrewpg.bsky.socialColleague @wiebesworld.bsky.social has the latest on the Connor Hellebuyck situation, which is expected to take another turn Wednesday when he fails to report to camp and is suspended by the #NHLJets.
@mikemcintyrewpg.bsky.socialI believe the last NHL player to go on strike — refusing to report to the team he was under contract with — was Alexei Yashin, way back in the fall of 1999.
That lasted a whole year.
#NHLJets Connor Hellebuyck is on the cusp of becoming the first in 27 years.
@gametimeart.bsky.socialI'd normally agree with the "he signed a deal.." take when it comes to Hellebuyck. Yes, he should come to camp.
But this isn't something that he sprung on the #NHLJets a week ago.. This was back from 7 MONTHS! Helle has to try and force GMKC's hand however he can in the limited ways he can.
@wiebesworld.bsky.socialHers’s my latest on where things stand with Connor Hellebuyck and the #NHLJets with training camp about to begin:
@wpgmurat.bsky.social#NHLJets prospect review:
🏒 Viggo Björck
🏒 Samuel Hrenák
🏒 Lucas Wahlin
🏒 Garrett Brown
🏒 Alfons Freij
🏒 Colby Barlow
🏒 Kieron Walton
🏒 Kevin He
🏒 Jacob Julien
🏒 Noa Ta’Amu
Main camp hits the ice Thursday.
@tbonetorrie.bsky.socialThis #nhljets lineup will not strike fear in their opponents. And Helle will be gone, regardless of the latest reporting that offers for him have been terrible.
@gametimeart.bsky.socialChevy got his boy Dregs to speak for him huh? Things must be bad if they pulled that PR card! #NHLJets
@mikemcintyrewpg.bsky.socialJosh Morrissey insists that a trade request from the franchise goalie doesn’t change his desire to be a lifelong member of the #NHLJets.
The team's top defenceman spoke Monday about the present -- and the future.

@mikemcintyrewpg.bsky.social“I don’t think I’ve ever really played with a player like that before.”
Viggo Bjorck made plenty of new friends and fans this weekend — including members of his own #NHLJets prospects team which split a pair of tournament games in Quebec.
@mikemcintyrewpg.bsky.socialDavis Burnside to the #NHLJets social media team on Viggo Bjorck:
"You see all the highlights and you can’t wait to play with him. He’s unbelievable. I don’t think I’ve ever really played with a player like that before. He makes plays, he’s poised, and a ton of fun on the bench. He’s awesome.”
