An Oak Tree a Day
Don’t cry for me when I’m gone. Instead of clearing the dead wood of a fallen tree, it is left in place for shelter & food resources for wildlife. When this tree breaks down it will also add nutrients to the soil, the 2nd largest sequester of CO2. California #nativePlants #nature

The V shaped remains of a fallen oak tree laying on a slope of dried grass. Only tan colored bark is left on the trunk and branches. The leaves have all fallen and dried out supplying nutrients to the soil when they break down. There is a post and cable fence in the foreground and branches of healthy oak trees with leaves are visible highlighting the old dead tree. The sky is overcast and gray.

September and October are peak months for #MonarchButterfly migration. Conservationists say people across #Maryland can help them on their journey south by adding #NativePlants in backyards and parks, and avoiding harmful pesticides.

😎 If you’re a creature of pure light—yes—chartreuse is great camouflage!

She allowed a phone pic, but as soon as I retrieved a serous camera—poof 💨—she was gone.

In brilliant sunlight, green-yellow leaves disguise a butterfly of the same shade. You can make out her antennae and fuzzy head, her eye divided horizontally into dark and light halves, her wing repeating the leaf shapes.

It's that time of year. All sorts of action at the New England Asters (Symphyotrichum novae-angliae). Nectar and pollen sources start getting scarce this time of year, so you really get some concentration on the asters. Insects ID'd in alt text. #pollinators #insects #backyardwildlife #nativeplants
