@thebestisjeff.bsky.socialGoal China!
Just a straight error from Belli in goal for Italy.
A looping ball Belli should gather easily, but the ball just bounces out of her hands and into the net. Really rough for Belli.

@thebestisjeff.bsky.socialGoal Spain!
Corner kick is headed in by Irune Dorado.
There will be a question of a foul on the keeper, and I think it is a valid one. So VAR may intervene. But for now, Spain goal.
@thebestisjeff.bsky.socialIn the other match, Italy remains ascendant. China had a shout for a penalty but not given.
62' Italy 1-0 China.
@thebestisjeff.bsky.socialPenalty Spain!
Missed the foul.
Saved! Agote puts her shot an easy location to save, and Nair Pina duly obliges.

@thebestisjeff.bsky.socialRed given. Neide Guedes in tears as she's sent off, but it's the right call.
Portugal down to 10.

@thebestisjeff.bsky.socialBig moment in Spain v Portugal.
Ref has been called to VAR for a possible red against Portugal. High boot to the knee.
Looks a clear red to me.

A shot is saved but a rebound left hanging and Karen Appiah stabs the rebound home.

They work the ball into the box. A tackle prevents one opportunity, but the loose ball sits perfectly for Marisa Garcia, who buries her shot.

Brazil advance after the first shootout of the U-20 Women’s World Cup.
North Carolina’s Aven Alvarez converted a critical 5th penalty to keep the U.S. alive, but it wasn’t enough.
@equalpitchfootball.bsky.socialThis has been such a disappointing U20 Women’s World Cup for the U.S. and if you’re #EmmaHayes right now, you’ve got to be angry at the #NWSL, #FIFA, and even the U.S. Soccer Federation for not releasing their players and instead make a stupid decision to call up collegiate players.
@thebestisjeff.bsky.socialSouth Korea and Brazil move on to the quarterfinals.
South Korea await the winner of the Italy v China match.
Brazil await the winner of the Spain v Portugal match.
Those second matches kick off in roughly 30 minutes.
